Would you like to (or have you already) attended a "godless" church service, such as Sunday Assembly?
You don't want to go to church but you'll pretend to be in one? I can't figure Atheists out at all.
Interesting concept. Not sure if I'd be interested in it myself, but I can see how it might fill a void for community and gathering among secular people.
Going to church is the worst part of organized religion. Weekends are much more enjoyable without it, no thanks.
I've gone to one service. There was no real direction, and readings were done from several different books. I asked a greeter for a description of what the church was about, and she suggested I read the leader's book.
atheists are some of the most ridiculous people ever
That sounds even dumber than going to normal church if you ask me.
Why would I waste my Sunday with that if I didn't have a real reason to go to church.
What's the point? So you can pretend you are a believer? Very lame. :(
I haven't been, but I would probably go.
Can we have with God but no bible
There would be no point in going. I enjoy my church BECAUSE of God, so taking him out would be a waste of early rising.
"Non-denominational." Pretty common in the military where you get one chaplain of a random faith per unit.
This poll question isn't even talking about that. This article is just talking about a gathering of people who enjoy music and have a secular discussion.
That's a party.
I would rather go to one where they leave God in.
That ruins the whole point.
I have. I went to a universal Unitarian church and thought it was still too "churchy".
Played Dead Space thru & can't look at Unitarians the same again. I can't help but think of the game's psycho unitologists.
Not a bash, just a thing.
I don't care if you bash them
A "church" for people who don't believe in the reason there even is a church? It seems like if you are going to skip the only important part (if you're a believer), you my as well skip the most annoying part too and just stay home.
I don't understand nor am I interested in the concept.
God is everywhere right? So how could anything be Godless?
Churches can sure be dead, so that could be what they mean. Not sure though
No. I don't understand it. I don't feel the need for that kind of "fellowship" and if I did, I would turn to friends or interest groups of some kind. "Atheism" not being an interest group for me, just a descriptor of me, like "left-handed."
I've never heard of "godless" Sunday church. Sounds like a coffee house 'Open Mic Night', 'cept on Sunday.
I wonder why "godless" folk would pick Sunday, of ALL days(?). Does it salve the need for mainstream relevance? Well, it got 'em noticed! :D

I have attended a couple of Unitarian Universalist "services" which refer only generally to God in only a "whatever you want to consider a god to be." They seemed like mainly highbrow social get togethers with excellent snacks and liberal politics.
Sound like a community gathering. I guess they preach against gathering for a god thing.
I might try it once to see what it's like. I think it's unfortunate that it seems to be so modeled after religious services. Seems like we could come up with something different.
I was thinking the same thing. I think it started by people who were raised in a Christian church but became disenchanted, but they missed the sense of community that church provided. It's hard for me to wrap my mind around it, but I'd go just
for the experience, out of curiosity really.
