Today a former aide to Ronald Reagan, Douglas MacKinnon, has called for the south to peacefully secede over states rights for gay marriage. Should peaceful secession be allowed?
Douglas MacKinnon is not listed as a White House speechwriter, nor is he to be found in Wikipedia. The whole thing is probably a joke to rile the liberals.

I don't think it's a joke; he has books listed on Amazon. Can't vouch for him being an official speechwriter but I saw phrasing in one of the articles about this that made it sound as if his contribution had been somewhat less than that.
It won't happen for that reason. But if southern states wanted to, they should be able to. A modern civil war would be extraordinarily bloody. And it would cripple the global economy.
Hey... It sounds like 150 years ago! We don't want to treat people like people, and God said we shouldn't have to, but the Federal government says we DO have to. They're clearly overstepping!
We could keep treating them like lesser citizens if we just had our Constitutionally granted right to do whatever the hell we want to in our states. Obviously, we should quit federation because treating people like crap is more important!
No, I think we could logically choose as a country to split in two. Let the liberals have one side and the conservatives another side. The conservative side would obviously get most of the military since the liberals are not a fan of it, good luck
That's true but here's the catch. You're imposing a religiously conservative state. You're the only one and the only other religious conservative states are Islamic. Europe isn't going to go near you, neither is China. Russia is possible.
If defense spending went more to soldiers, liberals & libertarians probably wouldn't have a problem but when the majority of defense spending goes to corporations in the military industrial complex & wasteful spending why keep giving them money?
It was called a Christian nation on the article. Go to rural Alabama and see if it's overly Christian lol. Tell me if it would be cool to have one of them as your governor.
Didn't read the link almost never do. My comments were separate from that. We can have a conservative country with some religious ideas but not be overbearingly religious, just good morals and good people
People in the south are always complaining about democrats, so if they left they wouldn't have anything to complain about. How is that not how it works?
It says it in the article and all over several of the right wing sources. "A Christian nation with Christian values" he also went into it to say that Alabama and Mississippi won't be welcomed until they get everything sorted out. Only GA, SC, and FL.
Normally I'd say no, but republicans on this app shock me everyday so I'm really no one to call shots if I think republicans would or would not do so. Email Koch Brothers or Exxon and they'll tell you what is likely to happen.
Some southern Republicans have an unfortunate tendency to be illogical on these kind of issues. If you are a southern apologist who opposes Lincoln's primary objectives in office then you may need to reassess your commitment to the Republican Party.
You're right. I actually appreciate northern conservatives, respect their commitment to make America a better country, and could see myself voting for them in an election. I don't get the same vibe from the ones down here.
Sans his personal beliefs, any state should be able to willfully and peacefully secede should it want to. We have lost the 10th Amendment for all intent and purposes and live in an oligarchy.
For clarification there's articles calling this guy a conservative, but he looks further right wing than the tea party at this point. He's wrote several articles mad that Fox News wasn't harsh enough on dems and the GOP isn't harsh enough on gays and
Wouldn't miss them financially
The Red states rake the most help from the federal government and complain the loudest about people that are on public assistance...
Sorry Rota....I know... Family... Friends .. keeps you there..
In general, The Blue States are a better atmosphere to be LGBT
Might consider vacationing in one and look to move?
I believe in the power of Positive thinking.
You stay focused and positive.. you'll have it
plus... you're young enough to make things happen.. :)
My life has been quite a bumpy ride
But at 59.. I'm marrying the love of my life.
Congrats on your engagement!! Also, I know right? When I first came out it was a lot harder than it was now, and that was only 5 years ago. Gay marriage seemed to jump in approval all at once. I thought it would take so much longer than it did.
