The astrologer who helped determine Uncle Reagan's schedule and who had a major influence on his wife has died at the age of 87. Do think every first lady should consult an astrologer on important matters of the state?

That was one of the minor cuckoo aspects of the Reagan years...

no, it shouldn't be a requirement, and first lady doesn't have any actual authority anyway, so what do I care?

Reagan thought people cared, that's why he wanted to keep the astrologer a secret and there's evidence that he took Nancy's warnings about when to attend certain meetings and when not too.

Makes sense. Being mentally ill is a requirement to get into the White House.

The fact we had a president using an astrologer at all has disturbed me from the moment I found out about it

According to political, this poll is distasteful

A president using the services of an astrologer for determining matters effecting public policy is what's distasteful-and idiotic.

I agree with you Matt, both comments.

According to all accounts I've seen, it wasn't Reagan who relied on the astrologer; it was his wife, & mostly about matters of scheduling the Presidents meetings etc., not about policy. So whatever influence there was came indirectly through

I before implied it was directly but Joan Quigley had a major influence on nancy who had a major influence on Reagan. She start consulting Joan after Reagan was shot

Even something as delicate as when a meeting is scheduled can have an effect on policy. Yes it sounds stupid, that doesn't change it though

I bitched that 1st sentence but I meant to say.. I never meant to imply that Reagan was directly influence but there's no doubt he was indirectly influenced

Indirectly influenced is not as bad. Even though it's BS, I could see maybe helping some. It could help sort your subconscious, or if you believe Tuesday is the best day to negotiate with USSR and you have a destiny, you might be more confident.

The person just died, and it's a little slap in the face to her duty.

Um, what? She was an astrologer to Nancy Reagan, Nancy Reagan was First Lady & I'm asking an honest question. I don't really see where you're reading a slap in the face. If anything, I'm bringing awareness to who she was. I've educated you about HER

Abo, you know this is not a poll to commemorate whoever she is. If Obama died today, I wouldn't criticize him for sometime just because it's not the right thing to do.

Honestly, I think you're more upset the Reagan's had a astrologer more than you are about anyone being distasteful. This lady was proud of her work & would've happily been any 1st lady's astrologer. At least you now know her name and she's not a man

Umm...you didn't even tell me her name. What kind a teacher are you, abo?

Abo, maybe you could put the link in a comment.

Hey, we may have her to thank for the end of the cold war. Or something.

If you wanted to criticize Reagan, you could easily think of three legitimate areas.
1. Amnesty
2. Raising taxes
3. Iran-Contra

Joan Quigley.... And she claims she softens Reagan's stance on the Soviet Union. .... And Good ideal Susan, here's the link

Can we get a comment such as, "It is unfortunate that Mrs. Joan died. She played a pivotal role in the Reagan administration."

Sounds better.

It's unfortunate that she died, but do you feel it's, um, fortunate (wasn't intended as a pun, but hey, it sort of works) that the Reagan Presidency was susceptible to the suggestions of an astrologer?

LOL why is this such a sore subject for you political?
