If a person doesn't contribute to society, do they still deserve water, food, and shelter?
yes they r people too
Yes, picking and choosing who "deserves" basic necessities is not only wrong, but can quickly become dangerous.
By the way, what happened to the old username? I had no idea you were back on here.
Clearly you're out of the loop! ;)
It's good seeing you and her again. (:
Dude, I'm perpetually out of the loop!
And don't worry, even when not commenting I'm always hanging around here, lurking in yur pollz.
Haha, same here. I've been commenting a lot less lately, but I always keep up with voting. Catching up is no fun for me.
I think contribute needs to be defined. The elderly who did contribute most of their life, yes. Disabled, yes. A able bodied person who chooses not to, no.
Deserve May be the wrong word.
I'll be honest and say no.
Was the question about what the worthless "deserve"?
The answer is nothing by definition.
We "deserve" the opportunity not to be worthless.
We don't "deserve" to be trapped in welfare.
That doesn't mean we abandon anybody.
The last time a government enacted this policy it resulted in the first wave of people arriving in aushwitz. Mostly the disabled.
I feel like saying yes would be selfish of me because I want them to contribute to better my life while if they didn't work to better my life I'd want them dead.
Sorry I have an odd perspective on this.
Although I'd feel compelled to help someone so desperate remember...
We don't deserve charity. That's why its charity. It is an awesome thing, but not a responsibility. Remember that as you type into your mobile device and enjoy other luxuries as
half the world gets by on less than $2.50 a day. The irony is thick here.
I'm disgusted that there are people who would actually answer no to this
Always surprises me that people can say no to this. I'm sure everyone has known an older person that wasn't able to do much, or someone with a disability that keeps them from pitching in. Certainly you think they still deserve to be cared for?
Not that I think people need a reason to not contribute to society
If they're alive, they do deserve the basic necessities. They serve some purpose for someone or something, regardless of how miniscule that may be. Relative to everything else, no one person is worth much of anything. To abandon those in need is to
throw away the basic connection which humans share as a result of our continual pursuit of basic needs (and excess, for most).
And really, every person contributes to society in some way; that may be good or it may be bad.
We are all the inheritors of the planet earth. Everyone is deserving of its provisions.
Unless you're a capitalist, in which case the earth is a product to be exploited and given in excess to some and denied to others.
Is this a trick question?
Who deserves water, food & shelter without paying for it?
Basic necessities of life should not be of any concern for people. To think that there are people with none at all because of greed and poor distribution is just sad.
Are you saying greedy people are taking all the food, water & shelter leaving none for the worthless?
Or are you saying 50% of most people's hard work isn't enough to give in taxes?
Greed is taking what you don't deserve.
