It depends on whether I think there's a better candidate. If I'm really split about who to vote for, though, I'll go with the incumbent - at least I know how they do things in practice, rather than how they would do them, in theory.

Funny to see two thirds say vote them out, then 90% of incumbents win each election. Large disconnect. People don't vote by newbie or incumbent, many vote by party. You're not going to vote out the guy from your party just because he's the incumbent.

I look at incumbents closer, because they have a record of performance doing the actual job, which can be very negative if they fall well short of average. But it can also be enough to give them another term, against an unknown.

I typically vote for the person who seems best for the job -- but around here, I tend to agree with the majority, so the incumbents are usually the people I voted for last time, and they tend to be the people I vote for again.
