They aren't a waste, but they don't last. I don't think they should last (yes, there are obviously exceptions, so please don't tell me stories about high school sweethearts who were married for ten million years).

Mine was not... We are engaged now. However, I think that for the majority, they are a waste of time.

My parents started dating in 10th grade, got married in college, and then had me, so I wouldn't be around if it was always a waste of time.

Some do, but most don't. I wouldn't say it's a waste of time at all, though. It's a learning experience, through and through.
