On my two recent "Reason.com" polls, 65% of Reps agreed w/the criticism of their party, but only 13% of Dems agreed w/the criticism of theirs. Does this indicate A. More problems exist in Rep party or B. Dems are in denial about problems in theirs?

A. B.

Extremism has destroyed both parties and 95.9% of the people are too stupid to see it.

I just went back and read those polls.

How are you trying to extrapolate anything from those?

Just looking at the results for Dems & Reps & asking what people think of them is all.

Look! The dems are in denial here too.

It's a large part of both. I think liberals have large issues in their party, but to be honest, recently conservatives have larger. I think all moderates will agree that both parties have many issues, but at least the democrats don't need

Just look to Kansas for that answer: the party for Republican Values isn't even endorsing the Republican candidate!

What happened to my Republican Party?

People in the big cities that have it. None of the small town people that are the stereotypical Kansans

Neither. The option presented in the Democrats list simply aren't true as stated. I have no problem with school choice, I have a problem with double dipping - which is what proponents of vouchers want. I also support choosing your healthcare plan.

The only one that has teeth is the guns one because I do not believe that Everyone should have access to Every gun at Anytime they get the idea.

The Rep once was also less subjective than the Demos; look at budget and economic policies.

Liberals tend to see the world as they want it to be. Conservatives tend to see the world as it is.

Liberal policies are based on theory. Sound good on paper but that's about it.

I disagree with that Hranka :)
(Warning: Blatantly biased and inflammatory comment)
Liberals see the problems and want to ameliorate them so everyone benefits. Conservatives see problems and want to ignore or exploit them to their own benefit.

Heh, FacePalm, if we're playing the overbroad inflammatory stereotype game, I'd say it's more that conservatives see problems and insist they don't exist, and that people who try to find solutions to those problems are the "real" problem.

bethanyq Ess Eff
10/23/14 6:37 pm

To clarify, I don't actually think this is broadly true of "conservatives." Plenty of conservatives acknowledge that problems exist and simply differ as to *how* to solve them.

But boy is there a subset here...

FacePalm That Trick Never Works

I don't either, but it was fun to say it :)

It's possible that I am feeling a bit mischievous...

hrankta

I wouldn't go that far, Bethany. More like conservatives see the problems with the liberal solutions, while liberals see the conservative solutions as unrealistic.

Here's an analogy I like.

Average Jo has a cut finger. Problem - how to prevent infection?

FacePalm That Trick Never Works
10/24/14 6:26 am

Liberal solution: slather on a 2" layer of Super Antibiotic Insta-heal ointment, wrap entire hand and arm in sterile silk for a month. Beg on street to cover cost of Cappuccino machine and personal attendant

FacePalm That Trick Never Works
10/24/14 6:27 am

Conservative Solution: Amputate the arm. Cauterize wound. Present Bill to patient. Go hunting. Use amputated arm as bear bait.

hrankta
10/24/14 6:28 am

Don't amputate his arm! He won't be able to work, then I will have to support him!

hrankta
10/24/14 6:29 am

Conservative solution: he shouldn't have cut his finger in the first place! Let him deal.

FacePalm That Trick Never Works

Third option: Reason.com doesn't understand the modern Democratic Party well enough to have identified its (many) actual problems, and instead merely identified policy positions it disagrees with.
