I've done two Ebola polls and in each, there's a clear party split in the results. This has made me wonder; do you consider this outbreak a political issue?
Yes, maybe not in a republican/democrat way, but as long as there are groups that may divide people's opinions on how to handle it, it becomes a political issue.
Cowboy I'm all for protecting the constitution. If Congress had voted 50x to make changes to Obamacare or propose something new I'd agree with you. Their senseless repetitive posturing had nothing to do with the constitution.
I'm confused. The results seem to point to the democrats being more concerned about an outbreak but everyone below seems to think the republicans are the alarmists
This Ebola scare is political. The yearly flu kills more people in the us. No one seems to care about that. Guns kill more every year.
Are Americans so fearful and panicky or just stupid?
It's being made political.
Dems are claiming cuts in NIH spending has left us unnecessarily vulnerable.
Repubs are crying we need to seal the border to reduce the risk.
They both come across like some opportunistic Chicken Little.
The conservatives are right we do need a travel ban. They just have the location wrong! We need a travel ban in and out of Texas. It angers me that the no regulation, small gov't Texas now has to have the federal CDC school them. That's my tax $!
What science? Really it's all been a confused mess with the CDC allowing travel then saying you won't get it on a bus but on the other hand if you are sick don't get on a bus. A majority of our citizens want a travel ban yet the president says no.
Partly. Many people (following the conservative media pied piper) will consider it a major issue simply because that makes it a more significant weapon to bash Obama with.
The other argument would be that conservatives are generally (not exclusively) more prone to paranoia, xenophobia and other fear-related issues in general.
I disagree heavily with you generalization in the second statement, but I do wonder why it would be wrong to bash the president. They're politicians, they need ammunition against Obama.
I don't, but the President does. That might be part of the problem. He appointed a political operative as the "Ebola Czar". Another unnecessary government office that'll never go away.
Cowboy, you're against gov't waste. Wasn't Congress voting over 50x to overturn Obamacare a waste? Everyone wants small gov't until they need it. I say if you are a Republican anti-gov't state not 1 penny of federal money for any disaster. Period!
Not the "outbreak", but how best to deal with it, or if it needs dealing with at all, or if it means the End of Days, put your Rapture underwear on, are all likely to be evenly split between the party of "So?" and the party of "No!".
