I make a mental list by imagining myself walking through the store and noting the aisles and then the items I need in each aisle...usually works well, but occasionally it doesn't.
I do the same. As soon as I use something up or think of something i need or want I add it to the list. I'm so anal retentive I even arrange the list in the order of part of the store the products are in from entrance to exit.
I rarely have an empty list - even after leaving the store. I sort my lists by type of store or particular sets of items. And then I try to clump the items by aisle/category.
Yep, sounds very similar :)
I grew up with parents that just went to the store and bought whatever they saw and it drove me nuts with all the waste. I rarely if ever buy something I don't end up using. Keep up the good work!
I make a list to keep me on budget. I like to plan all my meals ahead of time so I don't impulse buy and it's more efficient. With small kids I don't need to be in the store longer then I have to be!
Last weekend I made a list, Monday I forget to look at it and forgot the coffee creamer and the margarine, Wednesday I returned to the store and forgot the coffee creamer again. If I could only remember to look at my list...
I make a list, forget the list when running bw work and school, write a second one before going shopping and I never fail to forget two items. This time trash bags!! Lol
I know exactly what I'm buying when I go into the store because I always make a list. If I'm doing a weekly grocery shopping, maybe one or two impulse buys might sneak their way into the cart, but that's it!
That sounds like an amazing place to shop. Is it one of those discount places for the never have the same thing twice? When my husband and I were little they had wigwam stores in Seattle.
Yes, arranged in the order I'll find the stuff in the store. Ten minutes maximum, in and out. Maybe less. If I don't have a list it takes twice as long, and I forget to get what I went for.
I keep a running list in an iPhone app, actually multiple lists for different stores or sources. The minute I realize there's something I want to put on the list either a new think or something I'm about to run out of, I do it - if I wait even 5
minutes I'm likely to forget. The day before I shop, I look at ads for the 2 groceries I go to weekly, & add any stuff on sale that I want to get. There's also a "favorites" list in the app, where I keep a list of stuff I want to always have on hand.
I go through that list & add to my shopping lists as necessary. I also take a look at any paper or online coupons. The day I shop, I take a quick look at my fridge etc. to make sure I haven't missed anything. It all sounds complicated, but it's a
routine that takes just a few minutes to do, in total. The most important thing, though, for my feeble brain, is to put things on the list *immediately* when I think of them. Having the list on my phone makes that even easier; it's always with me.
I've been using Groceries IQ. It's not perfect but it's good. I especially like that I can make multiple lists, & for each list I can arrange the "aisles" (categories) differently for different stores, so the list stays "in order" for shopping at
I've used others, one that I liked better until an update ruined it, but even with a couple annoying features Grocery IQ seems to fit my needs best. I'd never do very well with a simple list.
Susan I have a master Cosco list on my phone. I have things like half-and-half and eggs and a few other things by every month. And cheese always cheese.
