When you were a child, is there one specific toy that stands out as your favorite?
A doll who's hair grew. I think her name was Chrissy, I had many barbie dolls, but I ruined them by ripping their head off (I wanted to see if I could reconnect it-i was a weird kid) I'd wash thei hair (bad idea) Easy Bake Oven, Etch a Sketch, Sli
Slinky. various stuffed animals
I remember Chrissy!
Yes, I still use it everyday.
My favorites were Barbi dolls and Matchbox cars. Oddly, I didn't like any other types of dolls.
A boy toy and a girl toy. Makes total sense. :-)
Hmm, I am bi. Never thought of it that way, but...
Yes and my favorite one was Annie Oakley outfit
I wanted a tiny tears so bad and finally got one
Lionel electric trains.
And HO scale trains I ran on a layout.
My brother and my cousin had those
Still have them?
A generic Voltron made out of Motorcycles. It was very cool!
My little stuffed turtle that I named Turquoise and when you hugged him, he would squeak.
My model train. I made, and painted, the whole thing.
It was awesome. It was a whole village.
You taught yourself or did someone show you how?
Well the train set came from Toys R Us. It was big set that took up half our attic. But I added paint, people, woods, and villages all on my own. I got it on my tenth birthday.
That sounds amazing. At our county fair they have a huge train set.
I loved it.
My brother and Dad were really into trains. Bro still has a piece of the room sized, walk in set they built to recreate a German town in the mountains during WWII. He still has all the trains and some buildings, 35 years later.
BARBIES! I still have most of my collection and the doll house is in storage at my parents house.
I loved my Barbie too.
My Cabbage Patch Kid. Her name was Katie Carissa.
Mothers used to fight over those things.
Cricket. Tape player in the back. Also Rainbow Bright, He-man, and my Easy Bake Oven
There were two... Legos and my bike.
Dolls... I had loads of them. My favorite was the Big Jim doll... He was a rugged man who wore flannel and was way cooler than Ken. My Barbie and Dawn dolls all liked him. Dawn and Big Jim ended up together, and lived in a camper.
Barbie tried to steal Jim away from Dawn, but he was loyal. Barbie dated GIJoe after that, Ken was too wussy. Barbie lived in a glass 4 story house (a lucite display case), and never married.
I also loved my kitchen set, giant Tinkertoys, baby dolls, my sets of encyclopedias, and playing Tarzan in the woods. I went everywhere on my skateboard, many times with my toy poodle riding on my shoulders.
Several - all baby dolls.
Not really.. My brothers and I were always outside building forts and play in hide and go seek.. I did like my Jem but she wasn't my fav toy.. My one fav object as a kid was a blanket my nanny made for me.
She wasn't a "nanny" nanny. Just an older widow, family friend who watch me and my brothers as well as another family to help occupy her time.. She made us all blankets.
All my ninja turtle action figures. I had so many of them!
My stuffed monkey sock. His name was Jocko. And my Sherwood green Schwinn racer bike. Yeah, those were the days my friend.
My blue plush Cuddle Cat that had lung eyelashes and eyes that blinked open and shut until my mom put it through the washing machine. (In all fairness, though, it really needed a bath.)
Later on I was pretty fond of my chemistry set and microscope.
Chemistry set - my cousin had one of those. We had the glamorous perfume factory.
Easy Bake Oven
G.I. Joe, He-Man, and Transformers were the two biggies for me.
For you math majors, that's actually three..
Hey Rob and Kenny!!
Hey Rob, BKS, CC and Katz! (Just wanted in on the Lovefest). :)
Hello, my Brutha and sistas.
my cAP gun and fastdraw holster
I had most of the original transformers, wish I still did! They would be worth something.
Imagine that! Man I am dumbfounded. Lol
I know, shocking right?:)
Man I feel like you pulled the rug right out from under me!! My world fell apart! I think I went from a Optimist Prime to a Negatron..
**Took me forever to think of that!! Lol
Haha:) pretty clever i must say:)
A Gameboy Color! It was my first real electronic toy and it was amazing. My parents limited me to an hour a day but I remember playing Pokemon and loving it (I was 6 when I got it).
Two. A battery operated Shuco airplane like this one youtu.be/kuTkIJyEiKQ
and a Mattel Shootin' Shell fanner. Between the plastic bullets flying and the Greenie Stick 'Em caps throwing sparks and fire, it's amazing I didn't lose an eye.
Wow! I bet all the kids wanted to come play by your house. :-)
My bike!! It gave me freedom!!
Born to be wild!
Don't you know it baby!!
I love Steppenwolf!
I had a yellow tonka truck that I hauled a lot of nails, dirt, and other construction stuff in. As a teen the "lemon twist" was a lot of fun until the basketball took over my life.
I was always intrigued by those Tonka Trucks. I also secretly wanted one of those cool Hess trucks sold at gas stations for Christmas.
No favorites here, they came and went
A sock monkey. He was awesome.
Were you in the Army too?
How come I have never come across you till recently. Hmmm.
Idk you're following me
Yes!! It was a really realistic dr kit. I was obsessed with ER and birth shows since I can remember. It wasn't one of those plastic and obviously fake kits, that's what excited me.
Even then you were looking to give medical advice :-)
Haha I was! It's a lifelong passion :)
You seem more like a pre-med type than a comp sci one, but of course, I hardly know you outside of a limited selection of SOH comments. But have you ever considered pre-med majors such as Biochemistry, Biology, Biopsychology, etc.?
Haha, I certainly have some tendencies that way. I originally wanted to be a midwife. A lot if the bad shit I went through affected my gpa. With cs, that doesn't matter here as long as I pass things :) cs is very similar to biology, almost
AJ - have you ever watched Call The Mid Wife on PBS?
:D no but that sounds like something Id love!
You should watch it online. It takes place in London and the nurses ride their bikes to the women. Good show, a lot of it hard to watch.
I had a big Lamb Chop stuffed pillow, and I loved it.
OMG lamb chop. I remember the last day lamb chop's "mommy" did her last show (she had cancer) and I was watching with my daughter - and I was crying hysterically because she really was saying goodbye.
That's so sad. :( I loved Lamb Chop as a kid; it was a great show.
What was her name...Shirley something. Lamb Chop was and is very cute.
My hall of justice play set along with my super friends action figures
My bike. I was hardly ever inside and I went all over the neighborhood with that thing. It was purple, and even had purple tires.
I lovvvved my bike too.
Unfortunately, if I had children, there is no way I would let them ride around the neighborhood all day like I used to be able to do. Its just a different world now. So sad. :(
Alyn - I would only let my daughter ride a few houses down and back. Not even to the end of the street. Around the block was never an option. Different world. So much lost.
Can you try to pm me as if you were trying to pm me for the first time - and not from a previous existing saved convo we had?
sure...I'll do that within the next 2 minutes...
I had a doll that had several jewels that lit up when you pressed her back. She was an essential monster slayer at night. Lol
Thomas the tank engine
I used to read the book to my daughter and watch the show too.
Coolest toy ever that I never owned... :(
What is that?
My teddy bear, Teddy Baby.
My first guitar, granted it was just a toy, but it sparked my interest in music.
That was "a gift"
Yeah maybe it was.
I don't know if it counts as a toy, but I loved being on a swing.
Oh me too. I used to spend hours and hours on the swing in the park. Good memories.
G.I. Joe, big surprise huh? ;P
Last doll you played with?
If you don't count the girls I've called "doll", then yes ;P
Were you in Army?
No No No!!!!!
United States Marine Corps.
Do you still have your dress blues? Where did you serve?
Lost them in a fire many years ago.
I served in Okinawa and California. I was with 1st Battalion 4th Marines.
God Country Duty Corp.
I love you:-)
Matchbox/ Hotwheels cars. I still buy them occasionally.
The real stuff or pretend :-)
Probably my Super Nintendo.
A doll I named Joanne and my bike with a denim banana seat and basket.
I had the same bike lol.
