A Missouri State Democrat Senator, who has sponsored anti-gun bills, was drunk and carrying a firearm, while protesting, in Ferguson, MO. Does it surprise you that someone, who is supposed to be a professional, and a Statesman, is acting this way?

The kind of "anti-gun" bill she has sponsored doesn't involve not being able to carry a gun, so I don't see what's hypocritical about it.

Sponsoring a bill doesn't mean she personally favors it. She represents a body of people and ran on a democratic platform. Her personal opinion ought not affect the bills she signs, so I see no problem here. She has a conceal carry and was exercising

One of the bills was a requirement to report a gun as stolen within 72 hours, if the owner was aware it had been stolen. I don't consider that anti-gun, myself, but the NRA does.

cowboy Dog Father
10/21/14 4:41 pm

Doesn't an intoxicated person, carrying a firearm, upset you?

jalapeno verdadero
10/21/14 4:45 pm

Oh sure, that's why guns ought to be banned in bars. But, she wasn't doing anything illegal by having the gun, and your assuming she was intoxicated. So what she did does not bother me.

cowboy Dog Father
10/21/14 4:47 pm

I'm not assuming anything. Sober people do not refuse a breathalyzer test.

Jalapeño, if she has a CCW and is in a place that sells booze or is drinking she by law will loose her CCW. That one of the main rules you have to follow in order to carry concealed. I believe that the rules is standard for all states wth CCW.

10/21/14 7:39 pm

Not so in MA believe it or not. Just no drinking.

susanr Colorado
10/21/14 7:42 pm

tdy - She was walking outside. She was initially stopped (as far as I can tell from news articles) because she, along with other protesters, was walking in the street instead of on the sidewalk. She wasn't drinking while walking.

lip massholevania
10/21/14 7:43 pm

But she was drinking whilst carrying, at a riot.

susanr Colorado
10/21/14 7:45 pm

susanr Colorado

susanr Colorado

What kind of anti-gun bills? Who has determined that the bills are "anti gun"? Is it legal to carry a gun in the manner that she was? Was the Senator actually determined to be drunk?

She refused to take a breathalyzer test after officers smelled booze on her. Sober people don't do that.

The NRA says they're anti-gun. Sounded like safety precautions to me.

susanr Colorado
10/21/14 4:37 pm

She was reported by police officers to have "smelled strongly of intoxicants." That is NOT the same as saying she was drunk, & a responsible person would not just assume that it was true.

Maybe she was intoxicated. Maybe she wasn't.

susanr Colorado
10/21/14 4:39 pm

Yeah, that was my take on the anti-gun thing too, MadCow.

Maybe she's a jerk & an asshole & a hypocrite & a drunk.

And maybe she's not. Distorting news stories, which are often already distortions, does an injustice to people, and the truth.

susanr Colorado
10/21/14 4:47 pm

Do you really KNOW that no sober person has refused a Brethalyzer test? I suspect that most of them ARE intoxicated (and if she was, shame on her for carrying a firearm at the time), but I doubt that all of them are. Refusal does not equal guilt.

cowboy Dog Father
10/21/14 4:49 pm

Yes it does.

Whether one can incur legal consequences for *DUI* if they've refused to take a breath, blood or urine test depends on what state they're in. In Missouri, they can indeed have their driver's license revoked for a year. But that still doesn't mean

susanr Colorado
10/21/14 4:58 pm

that they are legally guilty of driving while intoxicated, and it certainly doesn't mean they *were* intoxicated. However, I don't know what the corresponding law is about carrying a firearm while intoxicated.

susanr Colorado
10/21/14 5:01 pm

I would imagine that it is very similar, though, that refusal to take the test results in loss of license to carry.

Repeating the same thing doesn't make it true.

Apparently you're not aware that some medical conditions & even some diets can cause a false positive breath test - and some LE officers may mistake the smell of the breath of those people for

Sober people sometime *do* refuse a breath test. And for good reasons.
