Lets look at where spending goes....
25% - Military (troops, tanks, intel)
23% - Healthcare (Medicare, Medicaid)
22% - Pensions (veterans, govt)
This is 70%....
12% - Welfare (aged, blind, children)
32% of welfare is for low income
6.5% - Debt Interest
11.5% - Other (education, transportation)

Only if you expect the elderly to work until they die. However, I strongly support rollbacks on defense spending, and social security is in dire straights in its current form...

The phones aren't free nor were they started under the Obama administration. So much for being informed.

It would be naive to assume all tax dollars are spent wisely, and I believe public dollars should be reallocated towards priorities like education rather than the military. However, since there are many, many things we needs taxes for it would be equally foolish to assume half of them are wasted.

But the most recent program called safe link was created by your democratic congress in 2008. And the money is taken directly out of your phone bill each month thru a surcharge.

Actually the program began with the community REinvestment program (Clinton) not under the community investment program (Reagan). And is the result of the 1996 telecommunications act. Hahahaha. You sure showed us conservatives!

That is one smart 12 year old, maybe someone in California should show him the way to the line for Obamaphones. We all might as well start taking what Obama is handing out with our tax dollars.

Aph it was CLINTON who removed the firewall between banking and investment houses that was put in place after the great depression. He also authored the laws that forced banks to make loans to unqualified people. He deserves a lot more blame for our last recession than Bush.

Toward the end of the year the govt agency would call & approve the program because they still had money in their budget. They never, ever wanted to hand that money back because it impact their budget in the next year.

I used to work in an industry where we had a public-private partnership to fund research. The government & the industry coalition would each pay half. We would propose projects early in the year for consideration & the govt would turn some down as inappropriate..continued next message.

The publicly held portion of our national debt does not include debt held internally by our government. This includes Social Security where our SS payments are spent by the government on current budget while putting back a government IOU.

Annual Interest payments on just the Publicly held portion of our national debt was $227 billion last year, even with these low interest rates. The whole annual Dept of Education budget = $66 billion, Dept of Homeland Security = $45 billion, Dept of Transportation = $75 billion.

I would bet that half of tax dollars in question here are pissed away due to waste, fraud and abuse of the system. Unfortunately, due to our two party system and career politician mentality, anybody who tries to reform ANYTHING is vilified and crucified in media spin campaigns by the other party.

Shoo - try to make your words a little more tender, you might just have to eat them. You're wrong. Refundable tax credits are paid to people in excess of their tax liability. A huge number of people get checks FROM the IRS who paid no taxes. It's a huge source of fraud too.
