That's why some people give gifts on three kings day because Santa wasn't on Christmas till later to be like the kings giving Jesus a gifts but Xmas isn't a abbreviation it's for people who don't believe in the religion but still want to give and get gifts

On Christmas Eve, we have a lavish dinner w dessert, then open gifts one at a time. That way we get to see what everyone gets, enjoy their reactions, and you can thank the one who gave the gift. It's a great lesson for the kids, that it's not about the gift, it's about the graciousness of the giver.

Our tradition was to open one on Christmas Eve, and the rest on Christmas morning. But I have a big family and my parents are now divorced, so this year I'm @my dads' on the 23rd, stepdad's parents' on the 24th, my mom's Christmas morning and my aunt's later that day - all opening presents! Whew.

Come on I mean we all have our own opinions but xmas really just cause you X out the name doesn't make it a different holiday it's Christmas and Santa is short for St. Nick it's all religious and you can't change that if its not your religion then celebrate something else but they're the same thing

Since my parents divorced back when I was in college it's always been Christmas Eve at Mom's and Christmas Day at Dad's. therefore, I always open presents on Christmas Eve. Even as a kid though, we would get one present to open after the Christmas Eve service at church.

Haha thanks EarlyBird. It is hard to grow up knowing that I cant go back to my innocent preteen years when I actually had time to play with my Legos, DS, etc. Maybe when I grow up I will become a lego set designer and become a kid at heart again? Who knows?

Used to not open gifts. But after getting married, we do Christmas Eve morning/afternoon with my husband's family, Christmas with mine. We needed our own Christmas time as a couple, so we claimed Christmas Eve night a couple years ago to open our gifts to each other. :)

Normally, no. Our kids are all grown. Last year my wife had a wee bit much to drink and we convinced her to let us. Happy Day! We got to sleep in on Xmas and she got to sleep off the hangover!

Not immediate family presents. We have the extended family get together and exchange gifts there.

Rosebud- it's the only time of year we buy new pajamas. Even though money is extremely tight this year I still wanted the kids to have that continuity.
