In 2012, the U.S. had the highest average temperature since data has been recorded. Do you view this as evidence of human-caused climate change?
The earth has gone through multiple heating and cooling phases. And it will again. With or without humans.
I like your comment. Especially the "zip it" part :-)
...but we're adding to it significantly. The question is not that there is climate change, but how fast it is is alarming. Also, we are using up our natural resources at an alarming rate anyway. We should all try to recycle and take care of our Mother Earth. She's supported us; time to give back.
would become as warm as Florida, and we're not set up for that. We have only a dozen days or so above 90 a year, and more than that below freezing. We'd be screwed, and the carbon dioxide would suffocate us. It was that warm 300 million years ago. Things were different then. Much different.
Yes, but if that happens now we're screwed. The Earth has had average temperatures as high as 80 degrees (now between 58 and 60, probably closer to 60 now but more like 58 decades ago). That would mean that Portland, OR, my hometown, which is 55 degrees on average
Actually, there is no doubt the earth is warming but, geologically speaking, our planet is still coming out of the last ice age and can expect to continue warming (in spite of humanity) for at least another 20,000 years or so.
Fortunately it's not actually 53% of the nation. The SOH population doesn't seem to be a cross-section of the US population. If it were, Romney would have won by a landslide. Oh, and I wouldn't say the 53% here are "ignoring the facts"; most of them seem to be denying they are facts at all.
If we ignore the facts it will just go away say 53% of the nation
I disagree...I'm not saying the comments should be unlimited, just a bit longer, say 500 words. That is hardly a full paragraph.
Tessa - I'm with you! Some people are windy as it is.
They're not racists either. I don't even know how that could be. Its so illogical that I can't even imagine how one would come up with that analogy.
Where are these people? Because not one person I know, that knows man-made global warming is bs, thinks evolution is a myth.
The Earth naturally warms up and it naturally cools down. Read a history book people.
There is no argument about Evolution, it is 150 years worth of settled science. No one argues it who is entitled to. It is not up for a vote!
No cowboy, but I have found those who reject climate change often reject evolution and the big bang. My brother works at CERN. These scientists are not some evil vast conspiracy to turn the world away from some fictional magical sky daddy that people call god.
People only reject evolution because of their beliefs in myths. It doesn't change reality. They also seem to confuse the word theory for hypothesis and think it renders it irrelevant. Gravity is a theory, but people don't question it. Relativity is a theory and we can prove its effects readily.
So because I don't buy into man-made global warming I'm stupid, I'm for segregation, (Which means racist), and I don't believe in evolution. Very convincing arguments there Liberals.
Oh my god. These responses! Too good! Bwahahaha hahahha wooooowwww. That made me laugh a little TOO good
You have it backwards........the ones that accept the theory of evolution are the morons.
All of those theories have been proven without doubt eggbert
Please don't! I do believe that is the point. I don't want to read through the long responses, be brief.
Then, according to that logic, kill yourself. You're part of the problem, right? (sarcastic comment, btw)
Climate change deniers are often the same anti-science morons who reject evolution. They hear the word theory, but think of the definition for hypothesis. Idiots.
Global warming shouldn't even exist.. Our species is a disgust and a disgrace
Ok. Seriously. How do you go from global warming to racism? Wow...
"Err on the aide of caution?" If you spend your life with your head in the sand, eventually you'll suffocate.
Recommended reading: "The Greatest Hoax"
Recommended watching: "Jesse Ventura on Global Warming". He once believed in Global Warming, but after doing his research, he's not so sure anymore.
Those scientists hands are tied! If they even try to question it now, they'll be exiled from the scientific community! It's turning into the "Intelligent Design" scandal!
I am the Lorax. Err on the side of caution. 90% of scientists (forget about the few liars who did fix the numbers) have demonstrated our impact on this planet. They are not trying to scare you into new regulation. They're trying to scare you into keeping this world nice for our future generations
Probably in much the same way those who fought desegregation. It is no coincidence that these are much the same people.
I think you are thinking of long term (100 million years+) climate cycles like in an out of an ice age. This is caused by elliptical orbits (ovals not circles).
A good scientist will tell you that the correct answer is no, but lies can be used to tell the truth. No one can with certainty say exactly how much of an impact we have but it would be foolish to assume we have absolutely no effect whatsoever.
Maybe they'll include the East Anglia E-mails where they admitted to fixing their numbers to have the desired effect? By definition that is a conspiracy.
The Earth has warmed and cooled over and over again in its 6 billion year history. The natural cycles of the Earth is very real.
We've been recording how long?and how long has the Earth been here? If we'd been recording for a few million years....maybe I'd believe this!!
Our kids and grandkids will ask us: why were they so stupid?! They had computers and the internet!
To which we'll reply: They'd rather believe conspiracy theories on obscure websites than actual peer-reviewed science.
I wonder what the history books will refer to republicans and right wingers of today as in 30-50 years.
Uuuuugh why you all so stupid....
Earth should be getting colder due to our orbit. Besides the yearly orbit there is another with which is patterned, right now we're at the beginning of an ice age orbit. For you see planetary orbits shift around closer and farther from the sun due to the pull of other celestial bodies.
Cavemen probably knew how to correctly use apostrophes.
"higher. Or scientists" should be "higher) of scientists"
...the research we'd spent years on didn't achieve useful results - well, I don't suppose even that would help. I can't really express how annoying, aggravating, and infuriating this can be. You just have to go back to the lab day after day (and night, and weekend, and holiday) and keep trying.
...tell anyone what it is, because pharmaceutical companies want to keep making huge profits with their toxic treatments. If people could spend a month watching research scientists work themselves ragged trying to find better treatments, watch people like my former boss become frustrated when...
Either that or they think 90% (and actually I think it's higher. Or scientists are corrupt or dupes or something. It's an aggravation that I have to deal with as a (former) cancer researcher - the apparently widely held belief that "doctors" already have a cure for cancer but they won't...
Global warming is not a belief, (like believing in ghosts), it is a fact. The question is: How do you react to these facts? Do you stick your head in the sand and deny the facts? Or do you change your behavior based on a rational analysis of this information?
Why do people not believe in global warming? Do they really think 90% of scientists are wrong and they are right?
90+ % of the scientist agree that man made Global warming is a fact based on real data.
Do you really think pushing all this soot into the air has no negative consequences?
Verifiable unbiased sources please?
There couldn't possibly be money and private interests behind those studies could there?
Did the cavemen end the last ice age with their SUV's?
