"You can safely assume you've created God in your own image when it turns out that God hates all the same people you do"
I chose to believe in an unemotional God.
I was raised to believe that God was a loving God and he loved everybody.
If there's a God or higher consciousness of some sort (which I'm pretty sure I believe there is), why would He/It hate anything He/It created?...
Wasn't this the underlying premise of the Crusades?
There is actual science on this, and it's fascinating. :)
I even found a link! (Some days, it's the little things that make you feel fantastic.) www.pnas.org/content/106/51/21533.full
Seems legit to me.
"God created man in His own image. Then Man, being a gentleman, returned the favor."
Isn't it crazy how it works out sometimes?
It kind of naturally follows. If you set out to make up a god who isn't accepting of everyone, the ones your god rejects are most likely the same ones you reject. The image thing is just an arrogant way of asserting we're special.
That's completely lacking in justification. It's entirely possible that people "hate" certain groups because they believe God does.
If you disagree with someone's beliefs, you should be trying to refute those beliefs, not psychoanalyzing the believers.
No, you should definitely be psychoanalyzing people. Always.
The takeaway here is that my idea of what "should" happen and your idea of what "should" happen are different. And that's okay.
Why psychoanalyze? So you can make irrelevant points and avoid issues? You give no reasoning, only saying that God's beliefs corresponding with a person's beliefs means that person should assume the belief in that God to be unjustified.
How does that follow at all? Is it somehow impossible to be right about God's attitudes? Please, explain your logic here, because from what I see, you have none to back up your claims.
You can't just brush this off by saying you just have different beliefs. Unless you believe people should do illogical things when making assumptions, there is some real debate here. What is the logical thing to do?
And your question claimed anyone who disagreed with you was rationalizing, so don't pretend to have no obligation to justify accusing others of using flawed reasoning when you make the it part of the question.
You just described Evangelism
Wait, my God and I don't hate anyone. Does this quote still apply?
I commend you, but sadly it seems you're in the minority
LOL I'm shooting for the lowest poll rating ever
I don't see why it's getting such a horrible rating. I guess we have a lot of people on SOH who have created their god in their own image.
Seems that way :)
Pfft good luck, I have one at 12% ^_^
Dang! That's crazy low.
I think I have one around 30%. You've had worse polls imo :)
He's all loving and caring. He made capital punishment into the laws, and then he undid it by makin it nearly impossible for one to receive it.
That is why many people get offended by simply saying their god doesn't exist. He/she/it is a projection of self and rejecting their god is like rejecting them.
