"I was raped" is a valid reason to have an abortion.

This is one exception that I allow for with abortion, and life of the mother. Nothing else. I know the child didn't so anything wrong, but the situation could be viewed as the rape ongoing.

A child conceived in rape is as much a victim as the mother.
A child shouldn't be made to pay for the sins of his father.

MaxineL New Jersey

You can only say that if you have walked in her shoes.

MrMilkdud
06/11/14 7:04 pm

Based on that logic, she can only make the choice to abort if she herself has been aborted.

MrMilkdud
06/11/14 7:05 pm

Based on that logic, we shouldn't be able to convict anyone of any crime. Because how can we judge someone if we haven't been in their place, right?

MrMilkdud
06/11/14 7:05 pm

Based on that logic, it would be hypocritical of anyone who hasn't raped another person to claim that a rapist should be able to control himself.

I could go on like this for hours.

We have ALL been in that baby's place.

We have ALL been that vulnerable in the womb and dependent on the love and care of our mother.

MrMilkdud
06/11/14 7:12 pm

Every one of us takes for granted the fact that we were given the chance to be born and live our lives.

We should have at least enough compassion to give every unborn baby that same chance.

MaxineL New Jersey

I am only saying you cannot make that choice which is life changing unless you too have to make the same choice.

MrMilkdud
06/11/14 7:19 pm

Nope. Absolutely and categorically wrong.
I gave you several examples of the fundamental failure of that line of logic.
Do you need more examples?

Mr Milkdud, here's why your position is wrong (yes, I'm saying that categorically). If the woman knows she's pregnant, there's already a 40% chance of miscarriage anyway. It is cruel to subject a breathing human being to a lifetime of torture

fifeSymington Rose City
06/12/14 11:28 pm

for the sake of saving a non breathing one whose actual life depends on the flip of a coin. A woman's body routinely rejects pregnancies, so it's inexcusable to let a bundle of cells have precedence over a real person. In a secular society, anyway.

In your world, feelings trump human life.
Got it.

How about you read this.

In your ideal world, this woman should be dead.

In my personal opinion, there is no reason to end a life. However, it is not up to my opinion to take away a woman's choice.

I agree. I cannot put my own opinion onto someone else. They must live with their decision.

Just to clarify, you think it's murder, but think a woman should have a right to do it?

carleyvo Anywhere But Here

Yea I personally think it's murder. But I have never been raped and had to carry that rapists child. Not have I been pregnant and been told that child birth will kill me. It's easy for me to call abortion wrong from outside these situations.

carleyvo Anywhere But Here

Chances are that I could very much consider abortion if I were faced with such horrible circumstances.

anyone who thinks a woman should be forced to carry the child of her rapist is sick and living in some alternate reality. If for no other reason, it violates her freedom not to have children, since she didn't choose to have sex.

It also makes her relive the rape everyday of her life.

if there is evidence of rape meaning rape kit and rapist identified then yes! its cruel to force a women to go full term. its also cruel to the child. if that child looks like the rapist then that child might suffer abuse from the mother and not know

Her choice. The reason is irrelevant to me

Absolutely not. You want to kill somebody? Kill the rapist If I'm on the jury, you're not guilty. But so is the baby. He or she deserves to live and be loved, by someone, if not you.

The child is innocent. Someone will take him/her.

Don't kill the baby. He/she didn't do anything.

Until there is an option that can safely remove the embryo from the womb so it can fully develop into a human, the only decision or opinion that matters is the woman's.

At that point I don't think my wife would give birth. =) She'd go for option C!

Better to wait until you choose to have a child. Growing up in a household where you are unwanted and a constant reminder of a/hated/situation would suck.

You're forgetting adoption. For every abortion in America, there's a loving couple wanting to adopt.

Not forgetting adoption.

For me abortion solves both an unwanted pregnancy and the addition to the population problem in the world.

There are not enough families to adopt children. Foster care is no place for a child! Its horrible I've spent time in foster care don't wish that on any child.

Any reason is a valid reason. Up to a certain time.

I agree. For me, it's ok through first trimester only. And that means for any reason, even rape.

I'm glad someone posed these questions. I'm "No Way" for all three and the first two are just good reasons not to have sex.
