If you are seeking a high political office, two weeks away from the election you're 20 points ahead in the polls. A tragic car bomb severely wounds your spouse and they are in the hospital. Do you permanently end your campaign or continue?

What would be the point to end it?

To end running an active campaign doesn't mean you withdraw from the election. With your lead you will likely win campaigning or not.
If you continue the campaign and didn't attend to your family you would lose my vote.

It turns out, I'm not a qualified physician or health care professional. There is nothing I can do for her, and she'd expect me to go to work and visit when I could. Of course I continue. We started it together and I go on to the end.

Id be there for her, but I'm sure she would feel bad if I dropped out for her. I'd keep going, and I would show the bomber that I'm not afraid of them

It would score sympathy votes and secure the win.

I imagine my spouse wouldn't want me to drop out of a race for my dream job. It's not like I still wouldn't be there for her in the hospital, too. Honestly, if I'm that ahead how often do I really need to be campaigning?

I wouldn't be out campaigning, but I wouldn't withdraw.

Continue, because I wouldn't expect them to stop for me and I know that both of us would want the other to stay strong and never give up.
