When the federal gov tells us something (economic report, inflation numbers, jobs reports, etc) do you just assume that it's a lie until you see evidence that confirms it?

I assume it edited or embellished or exaggerated.

Yes. Obama has me conditioned. BF Skinner, the father of operant conditioning, would be proud of him.

I'm starting to lean towards believing everything I'm told is a lie

Certainly not. But if it doesn't comport with things I know/understand about the economy, I may research it more. A lot of things calculated by the government are (and always have been) based on very particular definitions of terms.

Do you mean stuff like CBO reports or more like press conferences?

I used to trust that the media would point out misrepresentations, but they've either stopped doing that or perhaps they never did.

Agree. The media is now largely in bed with the gov.

I didn't until the Obama administration took over. Although, to be fair, I didn't pay much attention to politics before then.

There are usually five different interpretations of the numbers (with vast omissions) and three revisions of said datum months or years after the initial report, with five+ interpretations each time.

Nah. I assume there is always some spin, some angle, but it's what they don't tell us that usually bothers me more. Obviously what they tell us is what they want us to hear, whether it be truth, or stretched, or even even ally found to be a lie....

It's the motivations behind these actions that make me uneasy. I get that we don't need to know everything, hell, I don't want to, but The People lost control of the leadership at the very top a long time ago....

Money, has done the talking for quite a while and will continue to until we figure out a way to get money and politicians as far away from each other as possible. Sadly, I don't know how we'll ever be able to without a massive overhaul to the system.
