In China, two people died and several other suffered injuries trying to retrieve a cell phone falling into a cesspool. If your cell phone fell into a cesspool, would you try to retrieve your phone?

If that had been your family member that died, would you be too embarrassed to tell people what happened?

What falls in the poopy pit, stays in the poopy pit. The basic rule of thumb applies: secure your phone and other loose items *before* going in a bathroom.

Even if someone did get it back I wouldn't want to put it near my face.

SALES REP: Sure I can sell you a new phone? May I ask what was wrong with your old phone?

Time for a new phone. If someone retrieves it, they can have it.
