Do you actively seek out new music, or wait for it to come your way?

I love discovering 'new' music, my most recent find is Massacre - From Beyond, a classic death metal album from 1991.

I seek it sometimes, but I rarely like something that was forced unless it's by an artist I already like.

If I waited for music to come to me then I would have terrible taste.

Schubert's "Winterreise" is all you need

For me music is mandatory for work. But when day shift comes on they knock themselves over turning it so low you can't hear it or off. I am so thankful I work nights. ; ) I listen to pandora on my phone or windows media player at work.

I am expanding my horizons with spotify, iHeart radio and Songza.

I am on a never ending quest for new and exciting music! I don't listen to the radio and I really don't listen to most main-stream Top of the Charts crap. Katie Perry can go fly a kite!!!!

I watch lots of music videos so I can see the songs I already like and discover new songs I don't know I like yet. Latch and magic are two of my recent finds. ;)

Seek out old music that is new to me.

Well, I personally don't seek out new music -- but my wife does, and I benefit from her efforts. :P

I'm always looking for something new to listen to. Even if it's 60 years old. If I've never heard it, it's new to me.

06/07/14 11:51 am

I listen to music before it exists.

Seek. Apps that identify artists are really helpful in this regard, especially for identifying songs heard on TV (in commercials, during shows, etc.)

If you seek new music check out Half Moon Run.

And of course if you seek old music check out Tesla, the greatest rock band of all time. New album drops June 9!

It just sucks that Tesla got bunched in with cheesy big hair bands. Tesla is just straight up good rock n roll.

So true! I hate when people call them glam rock. They have their own unique sound and their lyrics are deep too on many songs.

You're right. I got to see them open for Def Leppard back on Leppard's Hysteria tour. Tesla had the place jamming right out of the gate. I'd love to see them again in a smaller club setting.

If you get the chance do it! I've seen them at least 20 times never been disappointed. They are in Ohio several times this summer :)

Seek - in the genres I like, of course.

Both. I check Rhapsody every week to see what's new, and get the new music email from iTunes. Most of what I find that is new (to me) I find on TV. When I hear a song I like, I use the Shazam app to ID it, then search for that artist on Rhapsody.

Wait till it appears and then turn it off or block it out with the really good music from early 20th century.

If you like music you can't go wrong with the music streamers like Pandora, et all.

I find new artists that way that I like all the time. Then I put their name in an app I have and it notifies me when they are touring near where I live.

To me this is what separates true fans from casual fans. This applies to music, movies, TV, books, and video games. If you just consume whatever becomes popular, then you're just part of the mainstream crowd.

06/07/14 9:14 am

Spotify's related artists is the best way to find new music... Without a doubt... Pandora can suck it.

06/07/14 9:07 am

Mainstream music is terrible because there is no originality and studios take away the artists creative control to sell more records.

Alternative rock and underground hip-hop are the saviors for my generation. The internet is how you find good music

Such a hipster comment but I agree with you on that!

No wonder republicans and democrats are all the same. They listen to the same garbage music that radio station's pump out to them.

I don't "actively seek out new music", but DO happen upon it! On Pandora, I'm ALWAYS hearin' new stuff! Same for iTunes. I'll be looking for one thing, but end up goin' down a rabbit hole and findin' good stuff I really like, but wasn't aware of!

I used to seek it out in high school. Now I just stumble upon it.

I can't stand any of the music they play on the radio in south Florida. It's pretty horrible. I must be getting older because all the mainstream $hit is unbearable.

06/09/14 7:26 am

It might not have anything to do with age, most of this new stuff is just terrible.

There's so much crap out there it's easier to just see what rises to the top. Yeah you miss some stuff doing this, but at least you don't waste time going through crap
