Would you be in favor of lowering the president's salary to $250,000/year?
I feel that politicians shouldn't get paid. They are millionaires after all before they come into office and they don't pay taxes while in office because they are performing a public service
I think yes because Obama I feel is making the country worse, so he doesn't deserve a high salary like that #sorryobama
The President should be paid a salary equal to any CEO of a major corporation. These individuals put their entire lives on public display and give up everything for 4 years for us. They are on the job 24/7/365x4. Let's give equal pay for equal work!
Sure but that isn't an important issue.
Govt watchdogs estimate the taxpayers spend about $1bil to $1.5b on the president and his family per year. His salary is a small part of that cost.
What would lowering his pay really accomplish? We need to fix the over regulation on businesses that's hurting job creation and stop organizations like the EPA that are out to just hurt projects that are not friendly to the democrat party.
what i would be in favor of is lowering nfl mba nba etc... salaries
Didn't obama promise to lower his salary during sequestration? Yes.
Did he? No.
No he promised to write a check to the treasury, which he undoubtably wrote and deducted for a net gain on his tax return.
We can't get qualified candidates at the current rate of pay. What makes anyone think that if the salary is cut that the quality of people running for POTUS would improve.
I favor increasing the pay.
What makes you think I support lowering the president's salary? I just asked a question based on what I've heard other people suggest.
Sorry, ignore my comment. I didn't read your comment correctly at first. I thought you were addressing me, but then realized you said "anyone."
You aren't supposed to become president for the money. It is supposed to be an office of service. Maybe if the pay was less it would weed out those only interested in accumulating more money.
Cheril, do you really believe that??
Go thru the election process, face unreasonable expectations on a worldwide scale, and more just to hold an office of service that on a comparable basis is grossly underpaid.
Yes I really do. Police, fire fighters, armed forces, all of these are more dangerous more life consuming and all are underpaid for the most part. A 4-8 year microscope and extreme responsibility is not a greater sacrifice deserving of so much more.
Why? It seems reasonable for the highest position to be the highest paid, especially considering that position also has such short term limits compared to any of the others. Beyond all of that, $250K/year doesn't seem very much for any CEO.
I agree with you, but some people think the president is overpaid.
What is it now?!
What kind of cost of living does a president have? I believe the job of president is worthy of the pay, he works long hours, lots of pressure, etc. but if most or all costs are covered, $250-$400 grand seems like a really good salary.
I think he should get paid the same as other government offices
I don't think it would make any sort of impact as far as budgeting goes. Do you know how insignificant $250,000 is? I don't even think it's a thousandth of 1% of our budget
I want to take away his credit card for AFone
Ron Paul was to cut presidential salary to $39,366.
I think it's brilliant.
The POTUS has a harder job than anyone else. He(and someday she) earns and deserves the high salary even if we disagree with their policies.
They get plenty of money from those that got them in office.
He should own us!
Not sure I see the point?
People always seem to complain that politicians make too much money.
If people are talking about government salaries when they say that, then those people don't understand politics at all.
I'm even okay with 80k a year.
It should be whatever the national average income is.
That was Ron Paul's proposition.
Definitely. Everything is paid for them. It could actually be less considering the perks. Plus, when they leave office they can make a speech when they need some cash. Look at Clinton. He makes $ for speaking at functions.
When you consider the financial gains from all of the connections and the paid housing, travel, etc, I would be OK with 250k.
No. This is a salary less than the average basketball pro. Presidents earn their money whether we like them or not. You couldn't pay me enough.
What do you think about their pensions?
I'm cool with their pensions as well. After suffering like that deeply set for life is fine with me.
CEO's the ones who get fired - we're not talking the ones that retire, they get millions per year for life; not even a quarter of the headaches of any president or half the responsibility. Yet everyone seems to view the president as a charity case.
No. Whoever fills that position for 4 or 8 years earns every penny of it.
A little less won't hurt
I thought that was the salary?
I guess senators may be $250k or I was completely off
switched my answer to no because I dont see the point and president is one of the most stressful and demanding jobs out there
Congress people make $174k last I checked.
Well now I know thanks! (not sarcastic I promise)
Should be at least double that.
And I'm referring to the salary in general, not just for Obama.
