Are you typically fast at learning how to do new things?

Repetition in multiple venues locks in my learning.

I love it! It's the challenge that makes it exciting :p

If I get to do it and not just shown or told about it.

No, depends on what. I pick up faster on some things than others.

I pick up things pretty fast. My manager said he was blown away by how quickly I learned how to work our machines and put glasses together. He didn't expect to quickly train someone with no experience. Yay for photographic memory!

No. I almost never get it right on the first try, and sometimes it takes me hundreds of tries to get good at it. I think of myself as a relatively slow learner. The advantage to my deliberate pace is that once I master a skill, it stays mastered.

In general, yes. I have to understand the "why" of things, and once I'm there, I learn very quickly.

Oh definitely. It takes me soooo much longer to learn if I don't understand the "why".

Well...my resume says I am...

Haha I usually am though. Although it's much easier when someone guides me through it than when someone just shows me how to.

Depends on how I'm taught.

Conceptual things? Yes
Muscle memory/physical things? No

Same here. I'll easily pick up a new mathematical concept in one class, but it takes weeks for me to get any good at a new physical skill.

Same. Sports was such a struggle in HS (so glad I can refer to it in the past tense)

I've realized I'm a fast learner, but only when it comes to learning about things. Facts, concepts..

When it comes to learning how to do something, it takes me forever. I have 0 confidence in my ability in actually doing new things.

I wonder why that is.

Today at work I trained for a new position. Tomorrow I'm going to be on my own with it. I'm freaking out a bit.

I always freak out when having to do something new.

Well, good luck!

Part of it is probably a confidence thing though.

I'm sure you'll do great.

You'll likely do very well :) interesting how procedural memory can function so differently from the other type of memory (situational? Can't remember..)

Thank you Marie. ☺️

The people I work with are really nice; I'm sure they'll understand if I need some extra help still. But I'll be working with our patients, and I'm scared I'll embarrass myself in front of them hahaha

Rlands, yeah I am interested in why the memory works like that. And I wonder about all the factors that contribute to it.. Hmm.
