What, exactly, IS hemophilia? (I'll post the answer at noon if no one's gotten it.)

Blood that doesn't clot or clots slowly.

But isn't "hemo" Latin for blood and "philia" Latin for love? I'm technically right...

You have hemophilia, username?

Yeah. It's really not that bad, actually. Just needles and once-a-year hospital visits. Meh.

Hemophilia is a genetic disorder in which your blood does not clot properly. This means bruises stay around longer and are more common, and also larger wounds that may be stitched up normally could prove fatal.

Due to longer bleeding

Hemophilia is a disease in which there is a genetic defect in the blood clotting.

I've gotten several partially correct answers.
Factor 8 deficiency is one type of hemophilia, and the most common, but any sex-linked factor deficiency is technically hemophilia.
The ability to clot is anywhere from mildly to severely limited.

You don't bleed more, and paper cuts won't kill you. You bleed longer, both externally AND internally.

Factor VIII deficiency. This results in the blood not clotting.

Yeah, basically your blood doesn't clot so you keep bleeding, so even small cuts can be dangerous

The small cuts thing is a myth. You can't kill a hemophiliac with a paper cut. You can clot, your ability to do so is just severely limited. You do tend to bruise more easily and bleed longer, especially around joints.

Factor VIII deficiency. One of the many factors in the very complicated process of your blood clotting.

I believe it's someone who's blood has trouble clotting. It's a fairly dangerous condition.
