If you answered yes to my previous poll: Do you know what illness Ryan White had *from birth*?

No. That's not what he was born with. It's what he got from a blood transfusion.

I'm sorry about your uncle usernamehere. This is a great way to honor his memory. I don't know much about the disease but I'll look forward to the education.

You know, you never hear of it anymore. He's the last time I can think of it being in the news. His was such a tragic story. I love what Elton John did for him.

This is going to be a poll series about hemophilia that goes from today to June 16th, in honor of my uncle, Dennis Keelty. He died in his 20s of complications from a contaminated blood transfusion. My mother understandably doesn't like talking about

I'm very sorry to hear about your uncle. Posting this poll and comment is a good way to bring attention to the issue.

This is an important topic that doesn't get discussed enough. The blood supply in the US is relatively safe but blood supplies in other countries are not. It's important to be aware of this incase a blood transfusion is needed.

Luckily blood transfusions aren't necessary anymore for hemophilia, but the medication's another issue.
