Are you good at helping others grieve?
Nope. I wish I was though.
Sometimes all a person wants to hear is "I'm sorry for your loss."
I'm lucky if I do as well as "it's ok… *pat*".
No. I try to be supportive, but grief is so personal I have no clue how to help other than being there.
No, I'm hopeless. I can be there and help someone out on a practical basis, but I struggle to come up with some commiserating statement. To my ears, they sound like useless platitudes and they just get stuck in my throat.
I'm not sure you need to commiserate. Mere presence matters more than you may realize.
