An idea: upon reaching a certain threshold of comments or published polls or something, a user gets a one-week free upgrade to Power User. I think many would gladly pay for the upgrade after having tried it.
I think it's a nice idea, but I wonder how feasible it is, with the necessary tracking of polls/comments, and the mechanics of the temporary upgrade. Why don't you suggest it to Tony? (Or maybe he'll see your poll.)
You could shoot an email to tony@showofhands.mobi, but I suspect he gets inundated with email. Alternatively, follow his personal account (tony) if you don't already, & comment on the next poll about the app itself.
The free version is a pretty good trial, and having your polls limit out quickly is incentive to upgrade. But your point is valid I bet nobody wants to go back to standard after being power. The qualification threshold is... $25. I crack myself up.
That's true. Honestly the $2-ish per month seems cheap for as much fun as I get out of it. Tony has run a contest now and then in the past with an upgrade as the prize, as have some users. I don't have a sense of how effective those have been.
$2/mo seems very reasonable to me, especially when I think of it as a cup of coffee (or maybe half a trip to Starbucks), but some of the younger users have said even that's not easy for them. That's why, when I was able to upgrade a couple
of people, I chose 2 younger student users - who make good polls - whom I thought could use a little help. Plus one other person who seemed to be struggling.
and yes, $2 per month is very cheap, but it may seem more steep up front for some. maybe it could be $3/month or $25 for a year. That way a trial period would work itself in. I'm just musing.
I was upgraded by someone else (thanks, Stiletto!), and I very much plan to upgrade again when the year is up, if for no reason other than the increased vote limit.
