Bonds took drugs that artificially enhanced his performance on the field. How many of his stats are earned honestly? Charlie Hustle did everything naturally and there is no disputing his achievements.

They both jeopardized the integrity of the game. Bonds with steroids and Rose by betting on games(some on the Reds). As manager, he made decisions to enhance his chances of winning. So while he didn't use steroids, he still brought a negative light to baseball.

Because Bonds took steroids, Rose didnt. It's completely different.

If Bonds shouldn't be allowed in, then why should Rose?
As much as I like Pete, there can't be a double standard.

So what pro players shouldn't be role models

He agreed to the ban to avoid further investigation.
Done deal!

Nobody played this game harder than Pete Rose. One one the best catchers on all time. He has been vilified long enough. Let him in.... He was wrong, he admitted it but doesn't deserve this punishment.

Never. He deserves NOT to be in the Hall of Fame. He brought that on himself; no one forced him to trade away his honor.

He is not a good role model for kids.

He's been punished enough. He didn't kill anyone, didn't molest kids, he didn't take steroids. He screwed up big time as a manager, but as a player he personified hustle and winning!

He knew the potential consequences, and bet illegally, if caught and he was he suffers those consequences. OJ while he is scum, earned that before he became a criminal, Rose was not awarded an award and then had it taken away

Well said. OJ was convicted of wrongful death in his civil case, yet I don't believe he had to give back his Heisman nor be removed from the NFL Hall of Fame.
If these type honors are for on-the-field performance; Rose should be in.
Let's not forget that Ty Cobb was purportedly a flaming racist.

He did nothing to enhance his on field performance.

He bet on his team to win, and he would have been a crap manager if he wasn't expecting his team to win.

If juicers get in so should the hit king ( UN juiced ).

My take is that a hall of fame is for achievments in sport and nothing else. Only behavior that influences your performance illegally - doping - should bar you. I'd keep a person convicted of a heinous crime in as long as they were excelling in their sport.

It was a dumb thing to do, but not something that keeps him from the Hall of Fame.

He broke the only rule you can't break. He could've killed hookers and stacked them like cord wood and gotten in. I loved watching him play, but he broke the unbreakable rule.

Look people, it is posted in EVERY clubhouse from rookie ball to the big leagues. NO GAMBLING! If you do you are banned. Yes he belongs in the HOF. Does he deserve it? NOPE. He made a choice and now he can die with it. Hang with em.

You should be aloud to gamble your entire pay on your OWN team. If you bet against. That is another story.

However, my understanding is that the HOF ruled that anyone receiving a lifetime ban from baseball would be permanently ineligible for induction into the HOF. That would mean Pete Rose would still be ineligible after his death.

You get elected to the Hall of Fame based upon how good you were as a player (or manager), not your extracurricular activities. I'm sure many players who did illegal/unsavory things are enshrined in the Hall. His numbers & accomplishments speak for themselves and more than qualify him... let him in.

Pete Rose should be in the All as a player not as a manager.

Unlike Bonds who juiced to be good, Rose did it on skill and merit, and as such he deserves a hall of fame induction. Had he cheated to get the stats, I'd say no way, but he didn't. His poor morals and ethics don't negate his pure talent for the game and he should be recognized for it.

Induction into the Hall of Fame is based on your accomplishments & contribution to the game of baseball. He was an amazing player who achieved greatness on the field. He deserves to be in the Hall of Fame because he was one of the best to ever play the game. He didn't cheat to win or be great.

Nothing he did was real? Seriously? So the Major League leading 4,256 hits, 3,562 games played, 14,053 at bats, 3 World Series rings, three batting titles, one MVP, 2 gold gloves, rookie of the year award, and 17 all star games weren't real? You're an idiot.
