Should Olympic Men's basketball rules be changed to limit team rosters to players 23 years old and under (plus a couple over-23s), similar to current Men's soccer rules?

Absolutely! Watching the other teams trying to get Kobe's autograph made me sick

Popularity would go way down when there is less star players on teams

I think the soccer portion of the Olympics should change that rule. I don't quite understand why they'd make it that way.. I mean, if you're good enough to make it to the Olympics, that's what it's all about.

@kissmyfront. Yea it's sooo boring watching us assert ourselves as the best country as the world again and again (dripping with sarcasm)

Not for the parity in competition but cause it would be so much fun to watch our college kid smack the best of the best from other countries. If this happens, we'll still be the best. By a lot

@yepnope maybe it's because our government has idea what the hell they're doing in those fields? Get government out of those and let's see what happens.

No, the soccer rules are because FIFA doesn't want the World Cup over shadowed, there is no World Cup like basketball tournament.

Kissy - only basketball didn't use professional players and that was only the U.S. All other countries used their professional players. We didn't because we could still beat them until recently.

The Olympics are supposed to be the best of the best. I think soccer's rule is age discrimination.

I think (whatever age) if you are able to perform or out perform other elite athletes around the world, then who cares?

I love beating other countries ass!

Actually I believe the soccer rule should be changed...

08/09/12 11:45 am

the Olympics were for amatuers at one point..if I want to see the pros play, I'll. see a NBA or a NHL game..

08/09/12 11:43 am

and keep the NBA out of it..I hate seeing the USA crush everyone in every sport. I don't even watch it cuz it's no fun to watch because you know someone from the US will win

Syd, if you're tired of seeing the US crush everyone you should just focus on how we get crushed in healthcare and education by the other first world countries.

That sounds like age discrimination to me.

No sport should be limited by age. The Olympics is the best of the best for a reason.

Since when did the Olympics become an amateur spectacle? That's what the NCAA is for.

Why would we ever want to exclude the best of the best?

xindyx
08/09/12 7:02 am

The only reason they want to change it is so that the NBA executives get more money. They want to make the world chanpionships more profitable like they did with the world cup a long time ago. It is and always will be about money. -1 for humanity

Age shouldnt matter for any sport. This isn't colle Olympics

Yes it should be like the other team sports. I hate seeing the US crush everyone. It's not exciting or fun for anyone.

If you want to see under 23, watch college.

No way! I want to see the best of the best, period!! I didn't know that about soccer, now I'm even less interested in it.

Shouldn't the goal to be to send the best players in any sport to represent your country? Why should how one makes a living make any difference?

All the really good players are older than 23!

That would take the fun out of it for all countries.

Seems I was wrong all the time - I thought being an amateur not pro counts to qualify - never heard about an age limit in soccer or any other discipline.

08/08/12 10:18 pm

And FIFA should let pros win a gold medal too.

08/08/12 10:18 pm

Even if they did U.S basketball would still dominate with their college hoop stars.

tc25
08/08/12 10:04 pm

Does Olympics Men's soccer have an age limit? Or did I read the question wrong? Because I know Giggs is way over 23 and he was playing for England when they lost the other day.

08/08/12 9:53 pm

Age discrimination is not something a progressive society should take part in

08/08/12 9:30 pm

I don't care about basketball. They mostly have high egos and get paid too much.

Look how good we are at basketball compared to soccer and tell me we should change.

No. I didn't know here was such a rule in soccer, but that too is ridiculous. Age should not be a consideration for eligibility to compete, beyond the minimum ages set in some sports to avoid injury or exploitation. We're awarding medals to the best, not the "best" with an asterisk.

If you are good you should be allowed.to play even if you are over 40.

davidlattimer Arizona

the point of the olympics is to get the best athletes making a limit like that is outragous then really whats the point of the olympics to watch people who are almost the best thats not fun

08/08/12 8:25 pm

The Olympics used to be for the best amateur athletes, not pros!

schirm23
08/08/12 8:24 pm

The Olympics need the best of the best, and if that means some of the best are a little older then the Olympics should get them.

fadinho michigan

The soccer rules are there because of the existence of a World Cup tournament that is very very competitive.

dflem Arizona
08/08/12 7:13 pm

That's a dumb rule...should there be height limits too? Come in people the olympics are about the best in the world not the best 23 yrs old and under

08/08/12 7:03 pm

Less rules, less government, more freedom.

acavemand The Burgh
08/08/12 7:02 pm

Because the Dream Team made up of mostly guys 25 and older and some older than 35 was sooooo boring. Boohoo USA is better than everyone that's because we have the best players in the world. It doesn't matter what age they limit it to we'll still end up dominating every Olympics cuz of teen phenoms

born2teach
08/08/12 6:38 pm

It would be way better! I would actually watch if it were a younger group. Kind of like the 1980 miracle team in lake placid....hockey was way better back then!

Perot4Prez
08/08/12 6:35 pm

We should field the best athlete regardless of age.

Prohibiting the participation of athletes due to age is discrimination.

Where is the AARP when you need them?
