We still treat our citizens unequally...

American society is unfair. Why? Because it's unfair that people, who are just trying to be themselves and get by with another day, get bullied. Teased. Made fun of. Pushed around. Because society thinks it's okay. Lying. Cheating. It seems like these kinds of things in society are becoming... Okay.

Look at the statistics. The older you get the more fair you see things. Now go back and look at the question who made a Christmas list? The older you get less lists.Think maybe fair & unfair have to do with being a adult? Or a child in the sandbox who still won't share their toys & take yours too !

Life is unfair. Some people are born with everything who don't deserve it, and some people are born with nothing who deserve all the riches in the world. You play true best game of life with the cards you're dealt with, all the while constantly striving to be better.

life isn't fair because it is fairly unfair In the amount of unfairness to each individual.

White privilege? You mean how "minorities" take priority for financial aid, and college admissions? I wish i had been born anything other than white so the country would hand me everything on a silver platter. Then i could play the race card and never be booed down by ignorant americans.

This is fascinating, given the discussion going on in the death row question above.

Rose - no, not at all.
My point is that life isn't fair. It can never be fair but the US as a society does a great job of creating laws intended to provide fairness.

I notice a lot of bias against old fat white men.
Haven't we paid enough for the sins of our great great great grandfathers?

12/17/12 5:56 pm

What of racism in china and Japan and India, what of mass murderers in central Africa, what of anti-semitism and sexism in the Middle East (just to name a few)? Have you ever lived in other "1st world" countries, even, or is it simply cynicism that makes you believe he US is the worst?

I mean to say most Western societies. Obliviously white privilege is not an issue in Korea, lol.

As long as white privilege exists, most societies will be unfair. But America is probably much more so than many other 1st world counties.

unfair,, try having epilepsy. you cannot drive, find a job because it's deemed unsafe, people look at you like you're a leper. Either that or you get treated like a "special needs" kid. and if you went to a special education school?? get ready to be made fun of

rons Thanks America

Very subjective question. We all ride the same roads, allow to join little league, can watch the same tv shows, can walk in the park, travel here freely, eat fat. What's fairer?

There's no requirement for success. You can succeed as much as you want, and making society your excuse is just a shame. We're all very sorry there are other people more well off than you. Deal with the hand you're dealt without dragging everyone else down with you.

stop whining and start working. it isn't unfair. poverty and laziness go hand in hand. besides how many American rags to riches movies have you wasted your time by watching that were based on a "true story"
you aren't poor just because someone else us rich. go and make your own money.

12/16/12 11:28 pm

American society is a lot more fair than you give it credit for; you don't see the educated, hard working peoples of this nation complaining...

12/16/12 10:14 pm

There's lots of room for improvement. But it will never be fair.

Regarding MRIs I mean.. Hone the procedure so it's foolproof, then use them in court.

12/16/12 9:42 pm

Very unfair. Juries of twelve are modeled from historical English courts; it's time to pick a fairer scheme. Punishments are unfair; courts rarely administer corrective routines that totally reprogram criminal minds. Can you say "Clockwork Orange"? Today MRIs can read minds. Use them in court.

Nothing in life is fair, including society.

12/16/12 12:36 pm

I think it's as fair as it can be. Nothing in life can always and completely be fair.

Babymomma I watched zeitgeist on Netflix. Funny thing is before I could even get 10 minutes into it this guy is talking about "gods" born on Dec 25th. Which (anybody who does their own research) knows is incorrect. Jesus was born most likely in the fall, but possibly in the spring.

Republicans, 1980s: Let's give the working poor a tax credit so they can lift themselves out of poverty instead of relying on government assistance!

12/16/12 10:31 am

That's simply not true. Could there be some reforms to the legal system? Sure. But I wouldn't say that it's impossible to win without money.

pinkyusuck The Carribean. I wish.
12/16/12 10:30 am

They should be, but government meddling and unreformed tort law has made colleges scared to say no to "minority" applicants who aren't quite up to snuff. So the majority suffers. Sounds fair, right?

pinkyusuck The Carribean. I wish.
12/16/12 10:27 am

Fairness is equality of opportunity, not equality of outcome. Government hasn't come to that epiphany just yet.

In its current incarnation, with progressively burdensome taxation, and government-funded disincentives to work, and rewards for those who take, take, take without ever giving back? Not so much.

12/16/12 10:19 am

In its original, Constitutional form? It is about the fairest system available: You work, you get paid. You work harder/faster/smarter, you get paid more. You don't work, you starve. And charity for the unfortunate ones.

12/16/12 9:31 am

Applications should be blind. No gender race geography questions asked

12/16/12 9:30 am

Colleges should not be asking these things at all

@kelly, I prefer to help the poor with a hand up, not a hand out. When a poor person earns less money when working compared to what they get on govt dependency, most will not work b/c their standard of living is better with govt assistance.

@kelly, you don't seem to ask why they are poor? H-S dropout, abuse drugs/alcohol, laziness, etc... Did u know the the pple on welfare have a higher standard of living than the avg European? Deny it if u want, but it's true. I lived in Germany, Denmark, and the U.K., I know it's true.
