A "black neighborhood" opposes the construction of a high-end grocery chain near their homes, saying they fear an influx of white people to the area, harming them by raising property values and, therefore, property taxes on their homes.

More about gentrification than racial mixing.

But yeah, that's ridiculous. If you don't like it don't shop there.

Why would anyone locate a business in a community that doesn't reflect needs of that community? That's stupid. Regardless any other factor that's a waste of money & resources. As purely business decision, it's stupid.

The answers refer to the opposition.

The opposition in both polls you posted is racism so it's not ok with me in either case.

Yep, that happened here. An entire neighborhood development on abandoned land was planned. Even with a ten year tax freeze the neighborhood next to it went ballistic.

Why can't they see that property tax paid is only a fraction of the value gain.

There should be NO such thing as a black or white neighborhood anyway, and why are you stereotyping? How about a rich black neighborhood not accepting white trash? All this is stupid and a reason why I don't like people.

Now wait, did this question just assume the black neighborhood is poor and they don't want to be in a high value area? Oh give me a break.

Black, white, green, blue, what difference makes this? It shouldn't make any. Nor should ethnicity. One planet, one human family.
