A close friend and I was walking downtown tonight when a man held us at gun point & demanded money. All I had was $100 but it turns out I owed my friend $100 from the week past. I gave it to my friend & the crook took it from him. Debt paid?

I'll put it like this. If it were you and me. You would still owe ME this isn't some crappy movie or a TV provider commercial where your un-needed advice suddenly puts me in -your- debt instead. The money you shoved in my direction was already stolen

50-50 I think. If it's debt paid, then he was essentially the one that saved you by paying the thief entirely, but same thing vice versa. Split the cost of the robbery and pay him $50.
