When typing a search term into Google, do you usually finish typing your entire search phrase, or do you keep an eye out for an autocomplete suggestion that works for you?

If I wait for the auto complete it crashes my browser window and I have to reopen the app.

I'm so lazy when it comes to words

02/12/14 6:36 pm

There are other search engines besides Google, you know. Not everyone is in love with Google.

Sometimes I type out my entire search term, then click on a similar auto complete option.

02/11/14 4:31 pm

I can usually type faster than my internet connection can suggest queries.

sometimes the auto complete finishes it for me. I'm like, that's cool. half the time I don't know how to phrase it

02/11/14 12:12 pm

I rely on autocomplete so much i use it, them partially delete it to get autocomplete to pop up for my next search

Efficiency. I hate it when I see someone typing it all out and it's right there ready for them to choose already!

God forbid someone wants to maintain typing proficiency.

When you've gotta type all day, proficiency isn't an issue grumpy bear. ;)

Depends on if I know exactly what I'm trying to find. If I know, then I tend to type too fast to wait for the suggestion. Otherwise, seeing the suggestions pop up will help direct me.

On an actual keyboard (not an awful touch screen keypad) I type about 100 wpm, so naturally I just finish it off.

I type fast so typing my search halfway and waiting for the brain to compute what I wrote is a nuisance

Sometimes the autocomplete helps give you an idea of what you are really trying to find the answer to. It can help you word things better. I think it's a very good feature and I like it a lot.

Exactly, plus it is often consoles to see others had the same question, to know I wasn't the first, and it's likely someone has an answer.

I usually get distracted with other weird searches using the suggested search feature.

02/10/14 8:50 pm

Google knows what you want . . .

02/10/14 8:27 pm

I keep looking....sometimes it suggests a better search phrase for what I'm looking for...

I agree!

Praetorianus Fair enough.

I've deactivated it because often it completed something I didn't mean. The latest Android Google up allows that in settings.

I always like to see the suggestions. I've learned to magically ignore irrelevant ones so they are not even distractions.

I always type it out. For some reason, no matter what I type, Google always suggests "incest porn". I am totally not in to that

You might want to consider who might have access to your computer. Google's auto completes are very simple algorithms based on your past search history. Someone whom you might not be considering is watching incest porn on your computer.

I've contracted for google in the past and can tell you with complete authority there is no randomness involved on auto complete, it is based on any information they can gather from your computer, email, and search history.

Depends on the length of search. Usually autocomplete

Type in google "can the next" and see what it suggests.

KAnne Atlantic City, NJ

Usually autocomplete because it might suggest something better. Like when I can't quite think of what I'm looking for. Or a continuation of my search. Eg. Type "Tom Hiddleston" and then click "Tom Hiddleston shirtless." Even better.

I use the autocomplete feature pretty often, but sometimes my fingers are faster than my eye-brain connection and I just keep typing.

Zod Above Pugetropolis
02/10/14 3:46 pm

Autocomplete, but only if it is EXACTLY the search term I had in mind. Close is rarely good enough, but sometimes I can use the Google Guess, then add a word of context on that results page for a more accurate result from a second search.

The auto-complete helps me "read the mind" of what google will respond with for results.

Autocomplete in full effect. If it's wrong, I jus' keep typing. :)

02/10/14 3:17 pm

Type it out on my computer because I'm usually looking for specific info. Auto on phone cause I've probably searched it before

might as well make it easier and faster
