You get a last minute invitation to a semi-formal event tomorrow night. Do you have something in the closet that you can wear?
Do jeans with holes and flannel shirts count cause if so I'm set for every night this year.
I own a tux of course. You never know when your going need it.
Thank God and the AFI 36-2903. I always have semi-formal wear available, complete with pretty ribbons!
of course! Too bad I'm busy...
I have clothing in my closet for a full on black/white tie affair
I have multiple nice dresses that I rotate through. Don't mind rewearing.
nope, I'm screwed :(
I have a suit with suspenders, plus some slacks and some nice shirts. I can wear anything from casual to just-beneath-tuxedo-formal.
Nope, I'm pregnant with our last baby & don't intend on buying more clothes either.
I still fit in all my formal gowns from 10 years ago. I have a few options.
*from high school 10 years ago.
I can always wear my semi-formal Blues. Most people would think that's a classy move.
Nothing that fits.
Black suit, nice shirt and tie. IF I could get off work, which isn't likely!
Semi-formal means tuxedo. Not too many people have one of those hanging in the closet.
Tuxedo would be formal/black tie. Semi-formal just means a jacket and possibly tie depending on where you live.
Actually, semi-formal is in between casual & formal & does not call for a tuxedo. For men, it would mean a dark business suit with a tie. Women could go short or long with their dresses or skirts.
I have one killer dress I wear to weddings.. with some heels I regret within the hour.
No. I don't go.
I own clothes, so yes.
Yes but knowing myself id go buy something else.
I'm missing a top hat, cane and monocle, other than that I'm ready to go
Those sound like you plan to go all the way to white-tie formal.
I don't always go formal, but when i do....I go Mr. Monopoly
Semi formal means suit and tie! Check! There was a time when you went to church, a dinner, a dance, a funeral you wore a suit and tie! We've become a land of slobs!
Suit and tie is actually classified as "international business attire". Check out the link I posted. That's semi-formal.
I wonder who made that up?
When I was a teen getting dressed up was considered cool. Shine the shoes, get dressed, go out on a date.
These days a wedding or funeral wear are a nice pair of pants or nice jeans and a nice shirt. And that trend is AOK with me.
The Question is, do I want to go?
I have a nice selection, but I usually avoid those affairs when possible.
Absolutely. Dress, shoes, and a bottle of wine, if needed...
I'll go dress-casual, with a semi-formal attitude. :)
Just checked the rules. Light colored suit for day events? I only buy dark colors so I can wear the suit to a funeral. Good thing I don't attend formal or semi formal events.
I'll just wear what I wear every day.
I'd just have to take my brother's shoes
I could even cover the formal. What I do not have is a tux
Read the link I posted.
They definitely define lounge suit differently than I do Lmao!
I would go casual with a proud middle finger in the air!
I've definitely got that covered.
18 suits, I'm more than prepared and if we're talking truly formal I have 4 different tuxedos. Always ready for a party.
You did strike me as a well-dressed man.
Sis in law had a semi formal wedding and reception. The Mrs made sure I was attired appropriately. I haven't gained much weight since then so, yes.
Don't know if we could get a sitter, so we'd probably pass.
Take the kids but leave the tar baby at home!
I have lots of suits and ties, but no tux, so...nope!
I have a feeling many who said "yes" don't know what semi formal is.
Tuxedos are formal, not semi formal. Perhaps you don't know what semi formal is.
No, he's right en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Semi-formal
And this one says he is wrong. Tuxedos are formal. If they were semi formal, what would you consider formal?
Formal technically means white tie. Semi-formal means tux sans the tails. But our modern cultural has blurred the lines a bit.
I am in hospitality management, and what Comrade said is what "them rich people" believe to be the difference.
Aka "Those who actually make a distinction between the various levels of formal."
Haha, exactly, Fiat!
Dress Blues. I've worn them to a wedding before, and I was very popular. :)
But are you ALLOWED to wear them?
Besides, technically Mess Dress is closer to semi-formal.
I can wear my dress blues anywhere, well almost anywhere. They have a few rules against using the uniform to help push political agendas.
I could dress for any occasion out of my closet or dresser. :D
Yes and I can probably clothe a couple more people!
I've got clothes for every occasion, a closet a little to small, and a bit of a shopping problem. I can pull of semi formal or average or hooker.
Nope. And I would stay home. Happily.
Not only could I proudly not attend, I had to look up what semi-formal means.
oh yes. and a great pair of Louboutins to go with it. a girl's gotta be prepared! :)
I saw those on instagram they're super cute! ❤️
Especially these days. "Wink"
Lots of things! And about 200 pairs of shoes to pick from lol
So, have those been polls, or an inventory? ;-)
Lol I've featured maybe 6 or 8 of them as polls. You can find some others on instagram, and the majority are in boxes stacked in all the closets!
and they're all *fantastic* :)
Awwww thank you! ❤️
<3 you and your collection
❤️❤️❤️❤️ <3 you too!!!
Tons of dresses :)
I have so many gorgeous dresses that I could wear!! :)
Why is the middle class the one with the least ability to do so?
An excellent overview for those of you who didn't know that the dress standard is tux/tuxedo/black tie/evening dress/etc.
Very cool link. Explains the differences well.
Sure, if semi-formal means a pair of tan hiking pants, dark brown leather work boots, and a polo shirt. If not, then I guess I won't be attending :P
Wait a moment… I forgot what semi-formal was. One moment while I re-acquaint myself with the standard.
I was correct. Black tie.
As one part of semi-formal.
I can put together an ensemble that would fit in with semi-formal just from my closet. However, it wouldn't technically be correct.
Nope. I just donated a bunch of dresses. Darn...guess I'd just have to go shopping! :P
Yes, my batman costume. To the bat mobile!
