When it comes to birthday presents (or any presents), are/were your parents more likely to buy what YOU wanted or what THEY liked?

This Christmas, my parents refused to get me anything I wanted.

Their wishes lol. Because their wishes were anything cheap.

Our family is weird. We pick out our own presents. Sometimes we go shopping with the person who's buying the gift. Sometimes we just buy it & they give us our money back. So we always got what we wanted. (And still do now.)

and that's prob why I'm militant about my kids getting what they want not what I think they'll want... turns out I can be quite annoying

If my mom bought me what SHE liked, I'd get like... Gardening supplies or a golf shirt.

Praetorianus Fair enough.

Let's put it this way: it was much easier to coax a stereo out of my Dad (he loved music and always had a state of the art sound system) than a telescope (not a stargazer) if both costed the same. I think it's understandable but a bit silly.
