Was is hypocritical of the founding fathers to continue to own slaves after the founding of a "free" nation?
*from the role of a foreign nation.
No it wasn't hypocritical.
I've been taught that each of the founders had a different opinion on what freedom was and who it applied to. A range in the founders from freedom to all and only freedom for white males were all in the room. I'm just glad we got that behind us now.
Most people at the time viewed slaves as lesser people or not people at all. For the founding fathers to have the ability to create this nation they had to count them as less or else all the slave owners would not have abided by the constitution
Now, in our time yes. But back then they didn't see slave as people, so to them no.
