What is the plural form of "index"?
Depends on how it's being used.
That's what I was wondering- I know in psych we're always talking about "indices of fit" but I've seen the other way "there are multiple indexes referenced for... Blah blah blah".
I am going with
indicates. ( en-dah-kets)
Has a nice sound.
And it's a good compromise.
It's about time we expand the dictionary.
Indexes is the present participle of the verb form of "index":
Mark indexes his collection of business cards.
Indices. Indexes is acceptable in American English, but there are a lot of things acceptable in American English that aren't really acceptable in actual English. Writer's choice, I guess, but I'll never choose "indexes".
I think both are commonly used and correct, but I prefer indices.
