Do you support abortions being legal for those under 18 without parental consent?

I don't support abortions. Period.

How do we know those under 18 won't abuse the system? Won't use the procedure as a way of birth control?

It is a very taxing procedure on the mother, regardless as to how far along she may be. Often going through the process once is enough incentive to not have to do it again.

Any proof of this? Or is it just assumptions?

Even if I did support abortions, I would never support this. Under 18 that needs parent consent, something I would not give.

Make them all legal. Put them in a hospital (not PP clinic). And let them or their insurance pay for it. Not taxpayers

No. Not under 18, not over 18, not with parental consent, not without parental consent. Now I feel like Sam I Am, but I think you get the idea. All abortion is wrong. All abortion is murder. Period.

Lol, you do, I agree.

Absolutely.

I'd also posit that those patents that deny their child the abortion that she wants, then they should bear at least partial financial responsibility for raising that child.

I mean according to the logic I've seen in the "access to birth control pool" if the parents did their job right the kid wouldn't have gotten pregnant in the first place.

I agree with the comment of if the parent did their job in the first place. I also agree parents should either have done financial and parental role with that child or the child should be adopted out.

Even the best parents cannot control their children 100% of the time.

That's like saying if a parent refuses to pay for the college you want then they should pay for some of your food and rent for next few years.

It's not about controlling them, it's about installing in the right and wrong

@Mac, not even close. They can still go to college on student loans or part time & pay their way. They weren't forced to carry a child to term because their parents denied them their choice.

Even if you instill the absolute best morals and values that doesn't mean they're 100% never going to make bad judgments. Even adults make mistakes.

kscott I'm living proof - my parents did their best, taught me right from wrong, I hd sex ed, all that - but I was pregnant at 16. I don't place any blame on them at all, and if someone suggested they should have been held responsible I'd've laughed.

That said they were amazing, and supported me until I was able to support us myself.

Never said the kids would be perfect nobody is perfect, but major screw ups like that, parents have to take some blame

As a former "major screw up" I have to disagree, sorry.

Icy, 100% agree.

Blue, do you have kids? I'm a relatively new parent but even from my experience kids, for all sorts of reasons, make bad decisions sometimes. Even to get pregnant.

So you don't think that parents should take Any of the blame for when thier kids mess up?

macabregenius In Purgatory

Actually it is kinda close. Student loans = WIC and other forms of parental support programs. College can be life changing much like parenthood. There are many choices. Sorry natural pregnancy is considered "forced" to you.

kscott516 Show Time
02/03/14 3:19 pm

No, they didn't force them to get pregnant so why would they be financially responsible for their kid's mistake?

bluerum29 optimistic idealist
02/03/14 3:43 pm

A patent is financially responsible for what their kid does when under 18

kscott516 Show Time
02/03/14 4:10 pm

Not in every state and usually only limited financial damages but in this case no one but their own child has a burden. So they get to determine how much, if any, they want to pay.

I'm not quoting a law but what should be

icytoes the tepid north
02/03/14 5:30 pm

I really, REALLY hope your kids never do anything to make you question this stance. My parents did their best to instill strong values and responsibility in me - I made conscious choices to ignore their teaching. It is NOT their fault in any way.

It's a parents job to mold their kids into who they are going to be as adults. Some blame and some credit

Yes. I did and will rear my daughter to know that she can come to me with any and every issue, but I want her to have the freedom. Also, there are many rights and responsibilities whose age requirements should be lowered.

Right, I agree, but if they are going to be legal, then I would want to restrict them as much as possible
