From comments relating to the Autobahn... Any section of that road is guaranteed for over 80 years. We have nowhere near that level if quality control here. And as fredd said, not the driver training.

But yes, here and there limits could be raised.

Yeah, someone told me that the road foundations are not nearly as deep here. But on top of that, the design is poor. There are all kinds of strange undulations that would be unacceptable in the UK, never mind Germany. My head hits the roof on ...

Freeways here. The right lane appears and disappears regularly, discouraging slower cruisers from using it. If German lane discipline was enforced (keep right, pass on left only) there would be drivers doing waves of lane changes to avoid ...

leaving the freeway inadvertently. And many on and off ramps are poorly designed with tight radius bends, red light meters and steep slopes making it difficult to reach freeway speeds, especially for large vehicles.

Actually depends on where your talking about. New Mexico needs higher speed limits, I think they still have some at 55. Texas, most of ours are 75, some 80, one 85, and a few still 70. I think we are ok.

Not in general, a few limits here and here are worth raising.

Honestly, I think we should adopt something similar to the autobahn in Germany.

We're nowhere near the standard required for that kind of road, at least not in California.

Do you think the issue is with the road itself or the drivers on the road?

The roads. The lack of vehicle maintenance checks. The driving test and general driver education. The rules of the road themselves, plus the lack of tough enforcement. Driving culture in general here.
