In your opinion, has this democratic experiment known as the United States of America thus far been a success of blunder?

The first 130 years or so were very successful societally, and reasonably successful fiscally. The last 100 years have been very successful technologically and, for the most part, fiscally, but terribly lacking in virtue.

Freedom and self determination have not failed, WE have failed. We have failed in our responsibility to ourselves to resist at every moment tyranny. We have failed to teach our children of responsibility and honor. We have failed not freedom.

I'm not speaking German, Russian, Japanese, or Chinese, so I'll say it's a success.

What if speaking English is just as bad as any of those alternatives.

Depends on how you define success. Obviously we've made some biiiiiig blunders but I don't think we're any worse than most first world countries.

Problem is we keep pretending we are. I think it's hard for many Americans to accept being average.

I think it's still a work in progress and always will be. If we lose sight of that, it fails.

Pretty much a huge success overall, I don't see how you can see otherwise.

Well there is the whole teetering on the edge of financial collapse thing for starters.

Well I was judging by history overall compared to other major countries, not just the current state.
And while the debt is serious, it's far from catastrophic.

Until the world decides that the USD isn't the mainstay global currency.

That's unlikely in the near-term, and even if that happens it should be a slow and graceful transition if the Euro started to take over for instance.

The exception would be if the GOP went mad and really did blow the debt-limit bomb. That would crater both the dollar and the economy. It would be spectacular, thats for sure.

What goes up, must come down. The tide comes in, the tide goes out. I'd rather have a bottle in front of me than have a frontal lobotomy.
