Agree or Disagree? We only have rights because the Government says we do.
Voted disagree but with the current administration doing as they please, disregarding the Constitution, Going after Conservatives I could have voted agree and been almost correct.
Anyone dare a Ghost dance in the last century. Or take a bottle of shampoo on a flight to Texas. Or sell a Sex Toy in Texas, when you get there?
No matter your philosophy the Gov rules. Waco Texas. Wounded Knee. Or any of the prior centuries land grabs.
Or recently an eminent domain fight over a property obstructing a giant mall. Guess who lost their home.
Disagree. While rights can be a human construct, it is not government that defines it. We, as human beings, animals of superior intellect (supposedly), are capable of governing ourselves and determining right and wrong. No government or god needed.
Disagree, Our rights are bestowed upon us by God... No Government can give or take away our rights.
Agree to disagree.
The government tramples on our God given rights.
No, most people throughout history have had their rights trampled upon by a more powerful, controlling entity. Doesn't mean they didn't have them. Just means they couldn't enjoy them.
There are no rights, only privileges.
If we believe that government gives us are rights, then we in turn believe they can take them away.
No, they can't take them away. There are laws against that.
Besides it's not us versus government. We are the government. We the people create our laws and our rights.
If you don't like what your elected representatives are doing, you can protest and start change.
The idea of human rights was created like 500 years ago. Without government, man exists in a state of nature, a state of anarchy.
What rights does this man have?
Endowed by the created with certain inalienable rights
To even ask that question tells me you are not in the United States.
Uh mj is in the United States. And in pretty sure saying if you have thought x ill imply you aren't American is worse
No, our liberties are natural and endowed by our creator not allocated by the state
"Rights" are mere illusions, mere social constructs. Exactly what our "rights" are is entirely subjective, and were it not for government issuing of "rights" we wouldn't have a solid basis on which we could determine them. So, true.
Read the preamble to the bill of rights and the 10 amendment. There is your answer...
Both government documents hmmmm....
No, the constitution and the bill of rights are not government documents. They are documents of the people.
That were written by government officials?
Although the govt ever tries to STEAL our rights away from us!
My rights are not granted by the government.
Your rights do not exist until they are violated. Rights are grounds to sue in court for reparation. The only reason they are seemingly respected by people,is fear of the judicial branch. You don't have a right until after a court recognizes it.
No. But the government protects our rights though.
We have rights because the government hasn't yet taken them ALL away.
Could not be further from the truth.
We have rights because God says we do. The government can either recognize those rights or not, but that doesn't change our rights one bit.
You wouldn't think I'd have to keep repeating something so obvious, but they is we, that is, "The Government" is us. If the government says we do, it's because we the people say we do. So technically yes in a roundabout way, but really no.
Hey that's kinda what I was thinking.
Do you feel well-represented by our current government? Because I sure don't.
bean, become a corporation. Then you will.
Hayley that's because I swipe my smartest answers from you :)
beanD I don't sometimes, but it isn't that the government isn't representing me, but that it is representing someone like me on the other side of an issue. We are pretty evenly divided.
Beand: try talking to your representatives. That's why theres a colum that drops down with their contact info.
Well I think we may only have the rights we believe we have. I am not sure though.
And sometimes that falls in line with what the government says, and sometimes it doesn't.
Government can recognize or infringe upon rights, but it cannot grant them.
If the government wakes up one day and passes a law repealing the constitution and the states ratify it we are done. Our rights are gone.
Overall I disagree but more often that is becoming the reality.
Haha, of course not.
The government is the one constantly trying to steal your rights. It's our job to keep the government small and limit it's power. Too many people have chosen a free ride over their natural born rights as an American and human being unfortunately.
Would the silly little army shoot us?
This "little" army you talk about is the largest military in the world.
And Obama has already ordered murder on three Americans.
Disagree, the gov keeps trying to take away our god given rights and they will see reactions.
I disagree if the government wanted to take our rights away for whatever reason do you think as a whole Americans would sit down and let that happen?
They may not let them be taking away but they will trade them for security.
I could see that for the rich. For the 99% I don't see that happening.
The problem is they take away our rights little by little...no one seems to care until all of a sudden people will say...wow, how did that happen.
That's true but till those days come lets enjoy what we have now :)
NSA spying, TSA pat downs, DHS constitution free zone that covers majority of all citizens..... Yea they haven't taken our rights.... prohibition with a stroke of a pen instead of amending the constitution... Yep won't happen.
Disagree. And if the government keeps taking away our rights, they will see that the people won't put up with it much longer.
