Have you ever lost a fingernail or toenail completely?
I'm squeamish just thinking about this!!!
Sounds awesful to me
Once had a drill bit catch my thumbnail and PULL it completely out. Easily the most painful thing I've ever experienced. For several days, even a car door closing 50 ft away caused a shock wave of pain.
I know someone who's had that happen.
No that's never happened to me before. *jams toe on door and toenail falls off*
I dropped a can on my big toe and it took months for it to come off. And it took awhile for it to grow back too. My fingernails came off by slamming them in car doors. I did it once, my mom accidentally did it, and once my sister did when I was little
2004 half marathon -
Rookie mistake of newer socks on race day.
Musta been 3. Car door slammed on my finger. I still have a few faded memories of that evening, not of the pain but just random bits.
Was working construction and dropped a 4x8 piece of 1/4inch sheet metal, lost 3 toe nails ad broke 4 toes.
Back in 2006, I went on a huge shopping spree and I had so many bags in my hand. I went to open the door to my apartment. I opened it but a bag got stuck and my middle finger was slammed. It took a week for my nail to fall off.
Lost both my big toenails after wearing heels to San Diego Comic Con
Lost the finger, but not the nail.
Removed the remainder of the bail after slicing my finger with an electric hedger(8 years old)
Numerous times.. Couple of them had to be pulled out by doctors .. Had to stop nail biting habit after that.
Does it grow back?
When I was younger, I got my ring finger caught in a heavy metal door. after a few days, the nail fell off.
Ooh! The mere thought of it makes my toe cringe. It really hurt! It was awful! Yes, I know I'm a big baby, but I'd rather have surgery than go through that again.
my pinky gross in funny so I take it off every now and then
2 days after I hiked a 26.5 mile mountain pass in 10 hours. Might not have been a record setting time or anything, but my apparently my great toenail didn't want to hang out for next time :/ Not so bad; It grew right back.
You don't even know what dance does to my feet. Broken toenails, calluses, bruises, blisters, and recently a fractured cuboid bone... gotta love it!
The toes next to the pinky toes used to loose its toenail too often.
Mine do too!! Can't figure out why... Doesn't hurt, but it's not pretty.
I guessed that it has to do with how our feet sit in our shoes. Idk though. Definitely not fun :( sorry you have it too (but happy I'm not alone)
I get that. I was so happy to learn that I'm not the only person that trips UP stairs ;)
Lol! That's a fun one (:
Only half off.
Weird question. Running out of inspiration, Tony?
Thumbnail when I was around 10 after having a car door slammed on it.
My horse stepped on my foot and I yanked it out so quickly but the shoe caught my toenail and .....voila......gone.
Yeah. Stubbed my toe on my dresser in the morning, cracked my toenail in half. Then it fell off. Wish it had a cooler story.
Dropped a weight on my bare foot. Not fun, but cool story.
Several from jogging.
Omg this thread is making my hands and feet hurt just reading it! Thankfully no, never happened to me.
Helping my mother split wood, I was 9. Sledgehammer came down right on my finger. Hurt soooo bad. When the nail finally came off weeks later I propped it back on and tricked my sisters into 'wiggling' it so they'd scream when it came off all the way.
Yep. I was playing basketball & landed on someone else shoes with my toes. It hurted so bad! But I continued to play. It wasn't until I came home & took off my shoes & socks that I realized my toenail was totally ripped off. That's my only experince.
one whole finger nail and one whole toe nail. now I keep them very short, never again.
Had part surgically removed, never all of it.
Yep, a horse stepped on my toes and the big toe nail fell off. I'm just glad my toes weren't broken!
Ripped my fingernail clean off the nail bed. While I was sleeping, no less.
That takes a special talent. :)
I still believe it was torture ninjas – that same year I also managed to separate a rib while sleeping... sleeping alone.
I lost both of my big toenails about a month apart by dropping 45 lb weight on one then the other.
Beware the saltwater catfish...
I used to ride the front door when I was a kid.
By hanging on both sides of the knob and swinging.
I once put my foot down and ripped off my big toe nail.
It hurt so fing bad.
Had a door bend my big toe nail in half, had to get it surgically removed. And when it grew back it was ingrown so it had to be removed again.
I had a door slam it it hit my big toe and I had to take the nail off. It took MONTHS for it to grow up
I was a carpenter for a while (framing), so yes. A few, actually.
When I was younger I stubbed my toe against the door and the big toenail on my foot cracked. Had to pull it off in order for it to grow back, and even afterward it took several weeks to grow back.
Not sure how I did it, but I shut my thumb in a car door. The door was locked and I didn't have the keys. Yanked my thumb out, feeling very embarrassed. It wasn't til hours later when I told my parents. Thumb was crazy swollen. Sterilized a drill bit
And hand drilled a hole in my thumb nail. It was an excruciating and relieving pain, rolled into one. Nailed died, and fell off. A new one did grow back. As a toddler I also slammed a finger in a sliding glass door, a week later my sister slammed the
The same finger in the hinged side of the door. Nasty mess. Dr had to remove the nail. It grew back. Kinda surprising there too!
