When everything is said and done, he'll tell the people all that have on me is a bridge closing. Not really scandal material unless it's a slow news period. The media at its tabloid worst.

He'll run. He won't get the nomination but he'll try.

ModerateGOP26 Maine
02/02/14 4:21 pm

I think he's still got a great shot. This scandal will blow over if nothing else is uncovered, and the social conservatives/Tea Party voters will split their votes among multiple candidates; all moderates will back Christie.

Matt1981 The Who Dat Nation
02/03/14 6:56 am

He doesn't have a chance in hell. He is a candidate that the liberal media is promoting to set the Republican Party up for failure again with another frickin moderate Republican. Southern Republicans and Libertarians will never vote for Christie.

ModerateGOP26 Maine

I hope he does, and I hope he gets the nomination. People can b*tch about how McCain and Romney were "moderates," but once they had made it through the primaries ... How exactly were they moderate?!

Reply
Abolitionist Voice of the people

They were only moderates when they lost; talk radio and Fox News loved them when they were running against a democrat

political Georgia
02/02/14 11:53 am

Romney was conservative enough for me to support him throughout the primary.

SugarShaq
02/02/14 2:23 pm

Moderate, part of romneys problem was his flip flopping. One view as governor, now supposedly changed. People aren't that stupid. Christie has flip flopped, too. So, do I trust Christie to keep a view after elected? No.

political Georgia
02/02/14 2:43 pm

Yeah, but a lot of the flip-flopping occurred when you compared him to the early 90's. He became more conservative throughout his public service. I think bridge gates will tarnish Christie's reputation for 2016. Scott Walker 2016!

ModerateGOP26 Maine
02/02/14 4:19 pm

That's true, but I think that Romney wins that election if he has a track record of being pro-choice and pro gay rights ... Now it's a totally valid thing to say that doesn't matter to you, but I still think a socially liberal Republican would win.

political Georgia
02/02/14 4:29 pm

I honestly do not think social issues made a significant difference in the general. If Sandy was postponed a couple of weeks and if he never made his 47% comment, he would probably be President Romney. Romney had strategy problems.

SugarShaq
02/02/14 7:14 pm

Which states do you think republicans would have won if it weren't for sandy/Christie?

ModerateGOP26 Maine
02/02/14 9:26 pm

See, I think THAT had less of an effect than people think. I actually DO NOT advocate the GOP becoming pro-choice; it's spineless to flip flop. But a pro-choice candidate would pick up women votes that might have won us PA, NH or FL.

SugarShaq
02/02/14 9:32 pm

Republicans go pro choice and I am done forever. I am a woman. So are a lot of pro life people here, and in real life.

chickencookie
02/02/14 9:57 am

No. But the media has already nominated him because they know he can be beat. Not conservative or liberal enough. I am hoping that Cruz Paul and Rubio are involved even Mike Stockton or Jason Chaffez.

Abo, have you been following the bridge scandal?

Joshua77 Jesus is Lord
02/02/14 11:15 am

Here's the way it might go down: the media & impressionable independents will do nothing but love Christie during the primary & until he gets the GOP nomination, & then they'll turn on him like they did McCain and support Hillary.

Joshua77 Jesus is Lord
02/02/14 11:17 am

The GOP does not need a moderate bully who loves hugging Obama in front of the media. We need a true conservative leader who knows how to use the bully pulpit and can inspire the country not only to elect him but also to move to the right.

Joshua77 Jesus is Lord
02/02/14 11:18 am

But, I don't think that the media will show much love for Christie during the GOP nomination, since they've already pretty much written him off with the scandals. They may pick a different worthless GOP moderate to love instead.

Abolitionist Voice of the people
02/02/14 11:38 am

If the media is so bias, why don't more conservatives start their own networks? If there is a demand for more channels like fox, I don't understand why there aren't more channels like fox.

And political, I haven't been following that story. I purposely haven't watched any television media for months but I have skimmed through it a little, I just don't care enough about Christie or New Jersey to know all the details

Abo, when you are advertising a product, it helps if you do reinforcement advertisement, meaning you advertise on TV, in the newspaper come on the Billboard come on the radio etc. Liberal media is so successful because it is one of many institutions

are dominated by the left. When the liberal media pushes an idea, it is often reinforced by popular culture, the education system, government, and other institutions that are dominated by the left.

Popular culture, education, & other institutions are dominated by the left? That's a common theme among the right; you guys are right & world is wrong. Where was this liberal media when the Iraq war was being debated? my friend might still be alive

RepMorris Pennsylvania
02/02/14 1:14 pm

The media is liberal. MSNBC, CBS, CNN, PBS, HLN, and ABC. And I love how even though liberals own the media, they cry because we have one news network that has a shred of conservatism.

ModerateGOP26 Maine
02/02/14 11:37 am

Late, we can't keep surviving in the electoral college without winning 1) minority voters and 2) some Northern states ... To do both, we must become more moderate on social issues. Can't survive on Southern and Western states. Period.

SugarShaq
02/02/14 12:09 pm

Moderate. I won't get into this with you. You lost FL. You lost NC in 2008. You are NOT going to win northern states yet you are willing to give up southern ones. Romney couldn't even carry his own freakin state.

ModerateGOP26 Maine
02/02/14 12:18 pm

His own state is the most liberal in the nation ... There's absolutely zero reason we shouldn't be carrying states like New Hampshire and Pennsylvania and making states like Maine, Michigan and Connecticut more competitive. Northern voters...

ModerateGOP26 Maine
02/02/14 12:19 pm

... aren't as culturally conservative, and we're scaring them off. We need to change that. Who gives a damn if we're winning Mississippi?? It's not worth it. Let's go ahead and dare the South to vote Dem and make an effort to win big states.

SugarShaq
02/02/14 1:08 pm

You hate the south I know. Why don't you just change parties. CT is 58% liberal. You aren't going to win it. You had ohio nc and Fl. Lost them and will keep losing them with moderates.

ModerateGOP26 Maine
02/02/14 1:29 pm

Uh, why don't you switch parties? I don't hate the South at all! I've had great visits there. Beautiful area with friendly people. However, appealing too much to cultural conservatives in the South and other areas alienates voters elsewhere...

ModerateGOP26 Maine
02/02/14 1:31 pm

... The Democrats learned the hard way (from 1860-1932) what relying too much on Southern votes will get you: tons of lost elections. We need to be a national party, and we can't write off entire regions like the NE, and that includes the South.

SugarShaq
02/02/14 1:55 pm

I have practically already left the Republican Party. Unfortunate after 35 years. The first time we have a pro abortion or pro gay marriage candidate, I am done.

ModerateGOP26 Maine
02/02/14 2:07 pm

I strongly encourage you to stay, as it's my firm belief that as long as you're fiscally conservative - our party's mantra since the beginning - you are a "true" Republican. But I understand if you have serious issues with compromise on those issues.

SugarShaq
02/02/14 2:13 pm

True republicans who believe in small government would leave the social issues to states. And those 2 issues are my turning point. I will choose to not vote over compromising my values.
