Company has a policy that the employees all have to shave, a female employee has a light mustache growing. Manager orders her to shave it, she claims she can't because it grows in thicker. She's fired for non compliance. Was the manager right?

I certainly hope this was hypothetical.

She didn't want to work there after that, anyway. Don't work for d'bags.

Seems fair, since it IS non-compliance. Also, she's wrong anyway. That's a common belief, but hair doesn't actually "grow in thicker" after shaving.

There's also laser or waxing

I had electrolysis done on my face and stomach and now shave those areas. I also shave, wax, Nair, and tweeze the rest of my body. There's a lot of options to comply with a clean shaven rule. And it won't get worse with any of them.

That's an erroneous assumption lady. It only appears to grow more coarse because of the freshly cut hair.

If the same standard applies to men then definitely. Maybe she could wear a Burka :-). It is one of the cruel facts of life, woman start getting chin and upper lip hair. That's one of the cruel kick in the tush as you get old.

It's a common standard, and if she used the InterWeb she'd know the thicker growth is a myth. Her defense would have been religion or a medical condition. Being lazy is inadequate. I personally would not work anywhere that required me to shave.

Why not wax it.

Was this policy implement before of after she was employed? Did it specifically state it applied to both genders?

It's a health concern, sometimes safety. Why would that only apply to one?

Isusd5 has a point, at least in the military women can grow their side burns to their liking, men can't

"Growing in thicker" is a myth.

Shaving hair doesn't make it grow it thicker, so she has nothing to worry about!

Of course she should have to shave/wax it. And her argument is based on a myth...

Technically yes, however, if she has never shaved before, the hair follicle will look thicker because it's blunt cut. So what would be the difference between

There are other options than shaving. If the company has a policy in place - everyone should abide by said policy.

It says all employees have to shave regardless of gender or any facial hair. They should buy everybody a NO-NO hair removal system.
