Um, highly unlikely as smallpox was eradicated globally in 1979.

I most seriously doubt that. We would ALL have heard of your illness, and I'd be willing to bet Tony would have created a poll question about it somehow.

I got sick the day after Christmas. First cold/flu in 25 years. Total drag

I am both the Mother and Nana of many and have had neither cold or the flu in decades. Even teaching I did not get either. Since I am immu compromised I did get the flu, shingles and whooping vacs. Hand sanitizer and never ever touching my face without clean hands. Door knobs-paper towel.

I didn't get a flu shot and I haven't gotten the flu.

My, um, "ex," his father & I once pondered the question "what is the most difficult job?" One of us said a mother, one said POTUS, the 3rd said a teacher." You do two of those jobs, Tops, and it sounds as if you do both exceedingly well.

If you're worried about Ethylmercury (thimerisol), have the doc prescribe FluMist.
Because of all the subtypes/strains of Influenza, people can still contract the flu after the trivalent vaccine because all variants cannot be included.
This was all created by alien technology, Milkdud.????

I have the exact opposite problem as a teacher, but then I have autoimmune issues so that's probably why. What's your secret (if you have one)?

I've got autoimmune problems too, so I had a flu vaccine and a pneumonia vaccine. Stayed flu & bacterial infection free thus far but I'm a teacher and catch colds every year from my students, it's almost impossible not to. Unless you wash your hands a million times a day. During class (yeah right).

RJ, you did see that my recent responses have been different from the rest of my state, right? Sheesh, I just moved here from TX, my ideas aren't any different than they used to be when I lived there (though I do love VT). I've even *liked* some of your comments in the past. Just sayin'...

I hope that the reason I can't figure out what you guys are talking about, is cause I'm so sick right now. I've read it 3 times and still doesn't make sense.

Time for more cough drops and aspirin.
And by the way.. for all of you who have secretly been wanting to kiss me, now is not a good time.

I'm sorry EB - that you're not feeling well, not that you got the shot - that was smart. I hope you feel better soon.

I honestly haven't had a cold or the flu in at least 10 years. I think being a teacher has built up my resistance. Never had a flu shot either. I better go find some wood to knock on.....

Yep. Stupid heifer brought her sick kid to work with her instead of staying home. Next thing I know, most colleagues are sick and hacking all over the place because they didn't stay home either. Despite frantic/frequent hand washing, I caught the crud--but I stayed home.

Went to school. Once we found out we caught up on vax and did the extras. It took some time since I'll only do one at a time for the kids. I totally understand where you are coming from but things changed drastically for us.

Peaceful I understand whether you are coming from. I live with someone who is immune compromised. Until we knew that and now we work very hard to eat be healthy. I was not big on the vax schedule. We did some of them and delayed on some planned on getting them all except flu by the time our kids...

I take an mixture of herbal and dietary supplements that boost my antioxidants through the roof. I can feel myself getting sick at times but it is always gone in the morning. I don't know all the effects but I would swear I could take on anything right now. =)

I'd much rather just wash our hands with good old soap and water. But you can't always have that.

I live with someone who is immune compromised. We all get the flu shot and every vax that we need for our area. We all have gotten a dtap shot so we are up to date. I try not to worry about getting sick all the time but do keep hand sanitizer in my purse and car just in case.

Slxpluvs not sure I fully understand what you are saying about the start of winter. However, I am still running around in shorts, sandals and short sleeve shirts and have not been sick yet. Guess I have acclimatized to this colder climate. My parents have outdoor orchids in their climate all year
