Should pet licenses be mandatory?
Wow...the NJ nut jobs are at it again.
It's just another tax and another infringement on free people.
Nuwriter that's just part of plain old eugenics and the nazis were definitely not the first to use it...a lot of the inspiration for that movement started in America. Honestly, I'm beginning to think it's not all bad (eugenics, not nazis. Those are bad) =\
I think some people should not be allowed to have animals if they cannot
provide appropriate care. If you cant afford your own health insurance, your animals shouldn't have to suffer. you sure won't be able to take them to the vet if they are sick.
$$$$$ there is your answer nothing more
@salli7: libs regulate our finances, not the gov's
@aph514: one minor adjustment on who you are calling cons. Republicans want to regulate morality, Libertarians want to regulate almost nothing. I would consider both groups conservative.
The mafia could not have put it any better.
Your line of thinking makes you a great totalitarian.
Did it hurt when your brain died?
The term fascist is sometimes thrown around too quickly. But what you propose is fascist, and violates any concept of rights.
It is government with that kind of power that have killed millions.
Dustbunny, you realize that that's a plank from the Nazi platform, don't you?
I honestly don't understand why I would have to get licenses for all my dogs. They're chipped and vaccinated, they're well behaved. What's the purpose of a pet license?
Ha! I agree, people should pass an IQ test before they can procreate and apply for a permit. Seriously too many idiots spreading their genes.
hey tlaney way to knock a joke out of the park. my pets are all indoors and you sound like you've got some anger issues. are you licensed?
It's just a way for the gov to make you pay more money to them.
Oh my god.
I think the word you're looking for is "pet tax"
I don't mind too much for my dog; but, it was more important to have an identity chip. She's a rescue dog and blind. Pennsylvania offers a lifetime license for spayed & neutered dogs. That's the license we were able to obtain. There's no way I'm going to license my cats.
Oh and if the gov says its to make sure the animal istreated humanly i call bs if the people wouldnt revolt they would have us in slave labor
My pet is licsenced but i dont think thats somthing you can force people to do eventually we are gunna get communist with this dummy as president and all this annoying compromise even though either way the cliff goes it will be blamed on the gop or give praise to obama
no... you don't have to have a license to have children which is a bigger responsability
Perhaps For Rhinos and such, but not for fish, cats, small birds, and most dogs.
We practically are
Libs regulate finances? Since when. All they do is spend
And what about indoor pets? I have 3 that have never set foot outside. What business is that of the governments
Pets need to be adopted and loved, not regulated by government
Depends on how their vision is while driving.
It would make the homeless pet problem WORSE because people would throw their animals out rather than pay another tax for something. And people who fight dogs make money doing it so the fee wouldn't be a problem for them. This would do NOTHING but be another useless tax.
I would be in favor of a pet license if it was more than just a tax. If there were classes people had to take to teach them how to be a better pet owner.
Nob's point is that forcing people to obtain a license should, in theory, force them to accept more responsibility for their animal. Having to pay a licensing fee per animal should deter someone from "collecting" animals like possessions.
Alf - good one.
Tlany1- really sound more like you are talking about children.
Nob- I don't see your point.
Zod - good point.
Really I don't know why but not everything is political. I am a democrat and say NO.
Yes I agree but it creates an opportunity for the news to get the correct information out or lose credibility. Overall I find it harmful though, because of the continual reminder for the families
What about like farm animals or show animals. I have rabbits and I don't consider them pets their animals but many people do
Interesting that 50% of democrats said yes. A pet license is a tax on pets. I guess that explains it.
What if they just called the proof of vaccination the license, and you were good for the cost of the shot? Do you get any benefit from the license beyond protection from the big fine for not having it?
It's a San Antonio law. Failure to license a pet can result in a $250 fine. Proof of rabies vaccination is required to get the license. QED
Forcing people to get licenses wouldn't solve any of these problems. Requiring drivers license hasn't eliminated dangers on the road. There are people out there with 20+ DWIs.
Someone doesn't have a sense of humor sadly.
This is asinine. cons love regulation too, they just love to regulate morality and how people should live their lives while libs regulate finances and environment. Don't pretend that both parties don't love their regulations.
Licensees for what...Own a pet? lol it would interesting to know what i have to go through and how long I would have to wait just to get a pet hamster.
Lets get licenses and tax everything except illegals
No, but chances are your cat is roaming the neighborhood walking on my metal roof & my cars, terrorizing small dogs like mine, spreading fleas and worms, and making litters of feral kittens. That's why I've trapped 3 unlicensed cats. Animal Control euthanizes them immediately.
Absolutely they should! I've worked at shelters and seen animals be out through horrible things. Starvation until nearly dead, abuse, neglect, etc. It would prevent more dog bites, owners fighting dogs, homeless animal population, etc etc. The benefits far outweighs the disadvantages
What would paying a bribe to a bureaucrat solve?
Fūckin liberals love their taxes.
wow. quite possibly the scariest post I've seen on here yet.
(now someone's going to reply to this stating I'm discriminating against cats and the elderly...)
I'm sorry I couldn't disagree with you "yes" people more...my cat is NOT driving my car, and that's the end of it! I don't care how old they are!
