Nuwriter that's just part of plain old eugenics and the nazis were definitely not the first to use it...a lot of the inspiration for that movement started in America. Honestly, I'm beginning to think it's not all bad (eugenics, not nazis. Those are bad) =\

I think some people should not be allowed to have animals if they cannot
provide appropriate care. If you cant afford your own health insurance, your animals shouldn't have to suffer. you sure won't be able to take them to the vet if they are sick.

@salli7: libs regulate our finances, not the gov's
@aph514: one minor adjustment on who you are calling cons. Republicans want to regulate morality, Libertarians want to regulate almost nothing. I would consider both groups conservative.

The term fascist is sometimes thrown around too quickly. But what you propose is fascist, and violates any concept of rights.
It is government with that kind of power that have killed millions.

I honestly don't understand why I would have to get licenses for all my dogs. They're chipped and vaccinated, they're well behaved. What's the purpose of a pet license?

Ha! I agree, people should pass an IQ test before they can procreate and apply for a permit. Seriously too many idiots spreading their genes.

I don't mind too much for my dog; but, it was more important to have an identity chip. She's a rescue dog and blind. Pennsylvania offers a lifetime license for spayed & neutered dogs. That's the license we were able to obtain. There's no way I'm going to license my cats.

And what about indoor pets? I have 3 that have never set foot outside. What business is that of the governments

It would make the homeless pet problem WORSE because people would throw their animals out rather than pay another tax for something. And people who fight dogs make money doing it so the fee wouldn't be a problem for them. This would do NOTHING but be another useless tax.

I would be in favor of a pet license if it was more than just a tax. If there were classes people had to take to teach them how to be a better pet owner.

Nob's point is that forcing people to obtain a license should, in theory, force them to accept more responsibility for their animal. Having to pay a licensing fee per animal should deter someone from "collecting" animals like possessions.

Yes I agree but it creates an opportunity for the news to get the correct information out or lose credibility. Overall I find it harmful though, because of the continual reminder for the families

What if they just called the proof of vaccination the license, and you were good for the cost of the shot? Do you get any benefit from the license beyond protection from the big fine for not having it?

Forcing people to get licenses wouldn't solve any of these problems. Requiring drivers license hasn't eliminated dangers on the road. There are people out there with 20+ DWIs.

This is asinine. cons love regulation too, they just love to regulate morality and how people should live their lives while libs regulate finances and environment. Don't pretend that both parties don't love their regulations.

No, but chances are your cat is roaming the neighborhood walking on my metal roof & my cars, terrorizing small dogs like mine, spreading fleas and worms, and making litters of feral kittens. That's why I've trapped 3 unlicensed cats. Animal Control euthanizes them immediately.

Absolutely they should! I've worked at shelters and seen animals be out through horrible things. Starvation until nearly dead, abuse, neglect, etc. It would prevent more dog bites, owners fighting dogs, homeless animal population, etc etc. The benefits far outweighs the disadvantages
