Funny you should specify those options. Steel-cut oats with walnuts, dried cherries, and soy milk used to be my preferred breakfast. All healthful stuff. I'm seeing carbs differently now, & having effective weight loss on a diet that is relatively
low carb. Bacon & eggs is my standard breakfast now. Sometimes as an omelet with lots of low-carb vegetable matter. Sometimes with a small dish of berries. But ALWAYS high protein.
Eggs and bacon, more energy. If I have oatmeal I get sleepy.
I'm kinda the same way. I do stir in peanut butter for a protein bump, but the carbs are a killer.

Oatmeal with nuts, dried fruits, banana, apple, cinnamon, ginger, butter, milk, & touch of syrup or honey.
