Have you ever seen a documentary called “All the Queens Horses” about the largest municipal embezzlement scheme in US history, which took place in Dixon, Illinois (odd, a town of about 16,000 people)?
Thanks. I watched this video yesterday from the lead investigator talking about how she did it. Almost $54 million from a tiny Town just south of Rockford Illinois. A woman that made $80,000 a year in local government had a multi million dollar horse ranch with $4 million dollar motor homes and million dollar horse trailers and and $50,000 Rolex watches and nobody asked how.
The town of Sterling sent Dixon a letter telling them they thought they were the victim of embezzlement but Dixon didn’t respond. Who knows if anyone other than Crudewell saw that letter.
They recouped some of it though some of that recouped money went to lawyers.
She had one of the biggest quarter horse operations in the US and had horses in 21 states.
It sounds easy to do actually but also should have also been easy to catch. The people of Dixon cleaned house though. Rightfully so. Man those townspeople were pissed off but still, composed.
She will be 89 or something when released, if she lives that long and she had nothing and I mean nothing left. Which is good.
