Someone was promoting makeup that is gluten-free. Believe me if I have something with gluten in my face breaks out. They also said the make up was kosher. So my friends, is kosher important in makeup?

It’s not important to me.

Then again, I don’t wear makeup.

My guess is the possibility of ingesting it, especially things like lipstick.

Answering for halal, I ain't sure. I mean, it's gotta be preferable. But who really knows.

It is a concern for Jews who keep kosher, and especially during Passover. And it goes far beyond "pig fat," and far beyond just makeup, into the wider realm of personal hygiene. It looks like it's even more complicated that what vegans and those who need to avoid gluten have to watch out for, because it involves religious dietary laws that can be interpreted different ways.

Maybe @GrandmaAlice has some information on how much of an issue this is for Jewish women (and men? since it's not all about makeup) in general, or certain groups more specifically.

@NKarta would be a better source of information on this. The stuff in those two links goes way beyond anything I observe.

Thank you for your research. I haven’t really bothered with make up but I think I’m going to start. I just feel better. I have to be very careful with shampoo so I’m going to have to be careful when I start using make up also. Never thought that the itching make up caused was a reaction. I guess I don’t think things through all the time.

Makeup does not have to be kosher. Lipstick maybe, but Im pretty sure it also doesnt have to be. I don’t have time to read the links rn so I will read them later and get back to u.

Passover is a totally different story. On passover, there is a prohibition against OWNING things which are chametz (google it, its too complicated for a comment). There is a disagreement between different rabbis if makeup is included in this.

It doesn’t matter but I’m pretty sure my makeup is cruelty free and that matters.

That was among the other things this brand was. Also vegan. I just never heard of kosher make up before

My guess is that it doesn’t use pork collagen. It wild probably be the same for halal.

Nope kosher is a fictional label. It’s plays no role in diet. It’s only a religious label.

Unless it had pigs fat as a bass.

Kosher is a LOT more than just pigs.
