Neither it’s just history.

I followed because you are on the recommended follow list. Congratulations and welcome to the SOH.

proud that we can adapt as a nation from our mistakes and still stick to our initial roots and values that are beneficial

Americans have always been brutally violent, corrupt, unfair assholes, who lie. Of course we are proud.

Neither. History is what it is. We should learn from it. Every country has terrible things in its past. Every country has wonderful things. It’s like the color of my eyes. They are what they are. I could put on contacts and make then brown or green but why? They are what they are and will always be. I can pretend they are green but they are really blue. History is like that. We can honor the fact that the US put the first man on the moon and try to erase slavery but both existed. It is what it is. Learn from it.
As you walk on earth try to create a history our descendants will be proud to learn, if they are snowflakes.

Neither. We should act like grown-ups, not like cheerleaders who only sing praises or like brats who only point out the negatives. But we can also make grown-up decisions about which parts/figures we choose to honor with statues, etc. Removing a statue is not the same as erasing someone’s story from the history books.

We should be proud of it but never afraid to face the shameful parts of it.

Agree 100%.
There is a distinct and real danger in trying to obliterate our past.

What’s an example of someone trying to obliterate our past?
