I see a lot of the use of cuckholds, leftists and libtards. Do you think words like these are necessary to get a point across or overused and pointless.
Not necessarily are they useful but they can make the debate more exiting
I don't think so.
They show me ignorance
I agree with you. Do they shut down your willingness to talk?
Pointless. Except for leftist, I don't see that fitting in with the other two.
Referring to someone as a Marxist communist even when they aren't?
Just like when someone refers to a conservative as right wing. Leftist has become the term for a liberal in my opinion. It has become the identifier.Libtard, and a cuck is just to far.
Right wing doesn't have the same meaning as leftist. I see liberal and right wing as identifiers.
I admit to using those words. I do it because when I read back my comment, it makes me laugh. It's that third grade thing sort of like where you still think the word "fart" is funny, I guess.
Of course, I don't live or die by this app. I use it for entertainment, not as a substitute for friends, someone to talk to, etc. I think it's possible that some people on here are as serious about themselves and their opinions as a heart attack. I don't get that. I don't get that at all.
Some people probably actually care about their polls and gauging public opinion. How extremely odd on a polling app.
Well, I suspect there are more people like me than like the serious pollsters like you're talking about that. Imagine that.
More like you in terms of trolls?
It goes both ways with words like Trumptard and Trumpkin. I fully admit I've used one of those to refer to the collective before. It's *completely* unnecessary.
I think it's more obvious on SoH when the words libtard, snowflake, safe space etc are used bc the app is so right leaning and there can be a herd mentality. Anonymity can bring out the worst in everyone.
Well put. I can see that. Just had a few days of reading comments and I started to see a lot of similar comments.
This app can be both eye opening and disheartening at times. Personally I think the right lean feeds itself by driving liberals away. It's unfortunate. There is overwhelming hatred pretty much anywhere that there's a comments section online.
That is disappointing. I was intrigued to see what a polling app was like. I didn't expect so much trolling. I guess that's online for you.
Trolling is pretty much everywhere unfortunately. Give it a chance and don't let them get to you. The good outweigh the bad... the bad are just louder.
Yes the bad are very loud and immature. Thanks. You are very encouraging.
I prefer moonbat and wingnut.
How about a solid argument with facts and reason presented in a respectful, mature manor?
It's a cheap and easy insult which in turn cheapens your point.
^ Couldn't have said it better.
Well stated. I agree.
Snowflake is also ridiculous.
I personally like fresh new snowflakes in December. After Christmas and New Years they can leave. 😉
Both sides use words like that. They do more to identify the speaker than anyone else.
I see. I am just commenting on what I've seen so far. Valid observation on your part.
Pointless, but liberals are far from innocent of labeling conservatives with offensive slurs.
I never said they were innocent I just have noticed it a lot so far.
Yeah, definitely. Both sides sling mud at each other. Few people on the internet can have a civilized dialogue with people who hold different views. It's sad.
Yes. Sometimes I just avoid the poll because I don't care to expose my mind to that kind of negativity. I am more interested in learning what people are interested in and experiencing in their lives.
Leftist is descriptive. Cuckold and libtard are juvenile and counterproductive.
Totally agree, very juvenile...
Are you correcting me?
I see. Point taken. Not my style to use that word.
"...leftists" isn't really so bad, but those other words are kinda silly, and might never be heard or read during the course of a serious and civil conversation.
I guess it is annoying if you're not a communist.
They are unnecessary, and don't help to get a point across.
Cuckhold has some bite to it, but it's most effective when used by the alt-right against 'conservatives.' Libtard is childish name calling. Leftist implies Marxist-communist.
Leftist isn't an insult anymore than liberal is.
I never mentioned liberal. I see a lot of negative leftist comments. Throwing it around like a disease.
I know you didn't. But their both descriptions of ideologies that can be used as an insult by people who hate those people, but they're not insults.
Just like "gay". It's not an insult. Sure, it can be used like that.
Cuckhold and libtard are certainly insults. They can be seen no other way.
Did you see the above comment about Marxist communist?
Well of course. I'm not arguing for those words.
@Smacc Incorrect. Cuckhold can be used in a sexual context so it can be used in another way. 😂
Yes. A cuckhold in a sexual context is someone who wants to see another usually man have sex with their usually wife.
That where it came from. To insult liberals because they think they're weaker and would do that - that they're "beta males"
Actually I believe that it was at first used by the far right to insult conservatives by insinuating they were "cucking" themselves by working against their own interests and not embracing a hard right ideology. Then it became a catch all.
I'm a woman so it would be foolish to use it on me then.
They usually don't refer to women as such
Thanks for helping understand this better. I really appreciate it.
My mind is sometimes faster than my fingers. Lol
Interesting trivia. I actually have never seen it used on SOH. Sounds a bit old fashioned.
Limited Intellect or just repeating what they're reading
Like a sad trend.
Technically they're pointless and while debating someone formally or informally I don't think it should be used. I hear it most often used in jest, but the left has words for the right to so it's kinda just people - there will always be those who are more crude about things.
What are the words you see the left use towards the right?
Bigot, racist, homophobic, misogynist, deplorable, redneck, "wrong side of history", fascist, ignorant, etc ... usually while having dyed hair and a velociraptor screech.
I meant specifically on this app.
Although those are insulting they are mostly descriptive of feelings about the debate itself. The ones in the question tend to be used toward the people in the discussion. If a groups voices opinions that are morally repugnant and are called deplorable it is not an insult toward the right as a whole. It is then used as an excuse and license to insult by the right often.
Who do you think is quicker to stoop to this kind of language?
These words are often shouted at us as a misrepresentation or lack of understanding from the person we're debating. They're overused words that used to have a lot of meaning to them. The left goes trigger happy (pun intended) with using them as a result of mainly identify politics and the disillusioned post-modernism that's actually causing more of a divide
I feel like the right using these words are more to poke fun and make light of what we believe the radical left or well just left now in America that's actually very terrifying for our values or really American values.
In my experience, in individual discussions the outrage comes before the insult. For example, the "left believes we are all deplorables". This comes before that is apparent in the discussion as a tactic to diminish who they feel is an opponent from the start.
Bottom line they are used in place of good argument.
Snacc, from what I have seen to this point is Trump supporters are constantly insulting liberals. It's often not necessary from what I have seen.
I haven't noticed the left attacking individuals on this app only Trump himself.
I just think you should make a solid argument and try not to insult others. Insulting others just makes things worse. To me it is trolling.
To me it's silly when conservatives are called bigots, racist, homophobes and misogynists in place of an argument as a result of identity politics that can end up resulting in a leftist not even wanting a discussion.
It gets pointless either way. If you are just going to be disrespectful nothing will ever be accomplished.
Finny, I've noticed those phrases but they usually come from a conservative complaining of being labeled as such. In reality often the haven't but identify with a figure that has.
How is leftist, an insult that's what they are? If someone called me a right winger, I wouldn't be offended, that's what I am.
You need to see the context.
Usually when I see these words I completely dismiss the person's argument.
Insulting someone will rarely, if ever, get your point across.
I totally agree.
